Dark is the norm in the faraway Scandinavian city where night makes up most of the \u201cday\u201d in January. But the gloom doesn\u2019t particularly seem to phase Sassy 009 \u2014 Sunniva Lindg\u00e5rd \u2014 who is chippily explaining her distaste for \u201ch<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y music\u201d while wearing oversized headphones. \u201cI have a really big issue working with major scales,\u201d she says, holding a smile. Behind her hangs a black and white photo of a stern-faced farmer. \u201cI\u2019m just like, \u2018This is absurd.\u2019 How can anything be <i>that happy<\/i>?\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-276983\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Despite the Norwegian singer and producer\u2019s positive demeanor, her music is defined by nerviness and a simmering disquiet. Alternative pop that\u2019s at once danceable and brooding, this unique blend is audible on her 2017 debut EP, <i><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/sassy009.bandcamp.com\/album\/do-you-mind-ep\">Do You Mind<\/a><\/i>, when Sassy 009 was a trio with Lindg\u00e5rd\u2019s childhood friends Johanna Scheie Orellana and Teodora Georgijevic. In 2019, Lindgard reformed Sassy 009 as a solo project and continued to develop her sharp-angled pop music, nabbing collaborations with Clairo and Frank Ocean-affiliate vegyn.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            As Scandinavian pop has taken the world by storm, led by the watercolor sonics of peers like Smerz and Erika de Casier, Sassy 009\u2019s music offers a harder, more jagged perspective. It\u2019s vivid, austere, and uniquely thrilling. On January 16, Lindg\u00e5rd released her official debut album, <i>Dreamer+<\/i>. Like recent projects from her Scandinavian peers, one wonders if 2026 will be her breakout \u2014 even if her debut album almost drove her into the creative wilderness.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201c[The record] took me basically 4 years. It could have become an eternal process,\u201d she sighs. Eventually, a government grant and a proper push from family, friends and colleagues compelled her to finally finish the album. \u201cIt&#8217;s a gift to get this money and have the time to make it, but you also lose some of the urgency. Growing up in Oslo, her parents, both string instrumentalists, enrolled her in violin, cello, piano and flute lessons, though nothing seemed to stick. Instead, after being enrolled in a sport-focused high school, she had dreams of being a pro-snowboarder (her skills are on display in the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=p1Z4sPhH_0w\">2021 music video for \u201cMystery Boy\u201d<\/a>). Eventually, a high school music production course melted away her athletic ambition and inspired her to begin making beats and writing songs. \u201cI just wanted to sit in my room, make music and do nothing else,\u201d she says of those early days.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Sports still impacted her musical craft, though, which is populated with sharp sonic turns and sounds that feel to be in a state of perpetual propulsion. She cites MGMT and Miike Snow, as well as childhood favorites like Linkin Park, as early musical influences. (When asked about it, she relays a labyrinthine story that includes a magical forest, a biker lover named Jakob, and a realm where \u201cthoughts become reality\u201d). The album spans sounds and styles, from <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LIr86x5mMsg&amp;list=OLAK5uy_lIPY3Q_mmn2TyMLs7Kv4qFB-CGi3QkepA&amp;index=10\">slow-going bits of cloud pop<\/a> to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oqyfH87ZZVs&amp;list=OLAK5uy_lIPY3Q_mmn2TyMLs7Kv4qFB-CGi3QkepA&amp;index=7\">up-tempo musical sucker punches<\/a>, but it consistently expresses Lindg\u00e5rd\u2019s feelings of malaise and isolation.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cI thought for almost all my life that I was quite joyful and peaceful mentally,\u201d she says. \u201cThe older I\u2019ve gotten, the more I\u2019ve realized that I\u2019m a lot more vulnerable than I thought. I\u2019m the oldest sister. I grew up fast. I always wanted to remain strong.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Lindg\u00e5rd went fully independent after the release of her 2021 album <i><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sassy009.world\/listen\/\">Heart Ego<\/a><\/i> and wanted to make her debut album without co-producers or features. The independence was empowering, and isolating. Elias Tafjord\u2019s ferocious and unpredictable drumming became a hallmark of the record. She relented on the \u201cno features\u201d piece as well; Irish producer <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/yune.pinku\/?hl=en\">yun\u00e8 pinku<\/a>, Dutch artist <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/bea.1991\/?hl=en\">BEA1991<\/a> and Blood Orange (Dev Hynes) all found their way onto the project.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Together, they made a record that expresses that liminal feeling between rearing to go and being mired in a mind loop. The music\u2019s gritted teeth, clenched fist quality, can be a balm or blade depending on your mood. Or like a dream, it can be an escape or a trapping. Or maybe it&#8217;s both.
