href=\"https:\/\/knowyourmeme.com\/memes\/onika-burger\">Onika=burgers<\/a>, but <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mthsmrndn\/status\/2012959204307288228\">Tiramisu=Tate Endings<\/a>?\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Chronically online pop fans (or stans) have long had their own distinct language online, formed in the deep corners of online forums or in the replies to the central town square that is the X account, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PopCrave\">Pop Crave<\/a>. Key vocab words include <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/knowyourmeme.com\/memes\/khia\">khia<\/a>, flop, and mother, which are all used to either cast shade or celebrate members of the pop ecosystem. But lately, stan vernacular has been going much deeper than these <i>101 terms<\/i>. So was I. But after ingesting two days worth of videos and memes about these \u201cTate Endings,\u201d I\u2019ve decoded what this all (more or less) means. Here&#8217;s a working definition:\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-277019\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left block_quote\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"block_quote_wrapper paragraph_wrapper\">\n<p><b>End\u00b7ing<\/b><br \/>\n<br \/><i>\u02c8endiNG\/ noun<\/i><br \/>\n<br \/>1. (Slang, Music Industry) The definitive loss of relevance, commercial viability, or public favor of a pop performer.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-277020\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            The \u201cendings\u201d in question can be equated with anything (literally anything, like that <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mthsmrndn\/status\/2012959204307288228\">fridge filled with tiramisu<\/a>). In context, \u201cendings\u201d is usually deployed as a sort of cosmic power. For example: \u201cfilling your fridge with tiramisu will give you the power to make Gracie Abrams end.&#8221; The endings are thus unlocked, and then enacted upon one&#8217;s pop music foe.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            This is a post-modern way to express disdain or cast shade on a pop rival, but crucially, it\u2019s more stupid than it is toxic. I still haven\u2019t gotten over <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/thearchandroide\/status\/2011518933854261316?s=20\">this magical video<\/a> that shows a child telekinetically destroying \u201ctate mcrae dishes.&#8221; It&#8217;s is positioned as a swipe against Tate McRae, but it\u2019s also so strange and meaningless (and confusingly hilarious) that it doesn\u2019t have the same bloody bite as past stan trends.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-277022\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<h5 class=\"headline\" style=\"margin-bottom: 30px;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_surrealism_a_cure_to_stan_cultures_toxicity\"><\/span>\n        Is surrealism a cure to stan culture&#8217;s toxicity?<br \/>\n      <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Those who are familiar with the extremes of stan nonsense might find this relieving. Online allegiances to pop stars can be a ridiculously serious affair. There have been too many instances of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.essence.com\/of-the-essence\/psychology-legality-stan-experience\/\">doxing, death threats<\/a>, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/music\/fka-twigs-racist-abuse-robert-pattinson-fans-bullying\/\">organized racist campaigns<\/a> to count. Donald Glover even made an entire show about a murderous stan. And for many pop stars, (and pop music writers), the specter of the both adoring and vicious mob is a sadly defining element of the job, and the reason why so many are absent from X\u2019s digital jungle.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            I&#8217;d like to think an exhaustion with stan culture\u2019s brutality, or a recognition that vindictive stan culture is not a subculture anymore but <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/culture\/24043045\/politics-fandom-trump-fans-toxic-stan-culture-conspiracies\">the dominant one<\/a>, is what&#8217;s given rise to this new, kooky way of &#8220;ending&#8221; your anti-faves. Stan discourse\u2019s recent surrealist turn still has its snipey edge \u2014 McRae and Abrams are the butt of most of these jokes, after all \u2014 but these nonsensical jabs feel less personal and vindictive than other stan battles. (Think about the Nicki vs. Megan Thee Stallion situation which became shockingly personal and cruel). These &#8220;Tate and Gracie Endings&#8221; jokes feel more like  a reflection of the discrepancy between both pop stars\u2019 immense popularity and their niche cool status.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            And the surrealist stance in stan discourse is broadening. Taylor Swift, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/atopossora\/status\/2012360932677284184\">Sombr<\/a>, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/thearchandroide\/status\/2011995762230522127\">anyone you can imagine<\/a> are beginning to get poeticized jabs on X.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-277024\" class=\"content_block paragraph embed triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;clean the gracie abrams off this nicki minaj to end taylor swift&#8221;<br \/>me asf:<br \/> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1fdL4A4ky6\">pic.twitter.com\/1fdL4A4ky6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 jana (@yoncewhale) <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/yoncewhale\/status\/2013813096251298180?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 21, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-277025\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            If I was one of these pop stars, I wouldn\u2019t love seeing calls for my ending up and down the timeline, but I would <i>also<\/i> sigh in relief that this is <i>all<\/i> that\u2019s being invoked in my name.  Brainrot can be beautiful and the concept of considering \u201cvegetables which contain Chris Brown endings\u201d gives me a certain, special joy. I hate the internet. I love the internet. I hate stan culture.
