Discovery last year as the media conglomerate planned to split up, though the talks never went beyond preliminary inquiries.<\/p>\n<p>The overtures from Diller were <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/media\/barry-diller-told-warner-discovery-hes-interested-in-buying-cnn-a261c536?mod=hp_lead_pos11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described by The Wall Street Journal<\/a> as personal and separate from his role as head of media and internet giant IAC.<\/p>\n<p>The idea of Diller buying CNN was never seriously considered and did not advance to the WBD board level, according to The Journal.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Barry Diller expressed interest in acquiring CNN last year \u2014 though the outreach never progressed beyond preliminary inquiries, according to The Wall Street Journal. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Warner Bros. Discovery has said CNN was not and is not for sale.<\/p>\n<p>IAC declined to comment on the report, saying Diller is not commenting on any interest in CNN.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Netflix agreed to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery\u2019s studio and streaming business in a $72 billion mega merger. WBD plans to spin off Discovery Global \u2014 including CNN \u2014 into a new publicly-traded company.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>WBD executives said CNN is viewed as a core asset of the planned spinoff and plays a critical role in distribution agreements, making a sale impractical and costly from a tax perspective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCNN is an incredibly important part of the future of Discovery Global once it separates from Warner Bros,\u201d a WBD rep told The Post in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile interest in the premier global <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> network is not at all new, CNN was not and is not for sale.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Warner Bros. Its brands include People, Better Homes &amp; Gardens and Investopedia.<\/p>\n<p>IAC also owns the digital news outlet The Daily Beast.<\/p>\n<p>Diller is married to fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, whom he wed in 2001 after a decades-long relationship.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, Diller has spoken candidly about his personal life, revealing that he had romantic<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/movies\/story\/2025-05-07\/barry-diller-gay-diane-von-furstenberg-marriage\"> relationships with men<\/a> before marrying von Furstenberg and describing their marriage as a deep, enduring partnership.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Warner Bros.
