It\u2019s the irresponsible misinformation surrounding it. <\/p>\n<p>SEO isn\u2019t dying \u2014 it\u2019s evolving. That means it\u2019s on us to understand how the industry is changing, and to be careful about who we listen to.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not easily shocked, but some of the AEO (or GEO) talks I\u2019ve seen over the past year have been genuinely eyebrow-raising \u2014 even for someone with Botox. <\/p>\n<p>I still remember one speaker telling a room full of marketers they were \u201csorry for anyone still working in SEO,\u201d then im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely recommending outdated tactics as the \u201csecret sauce\u201d for LLM visibility. It\u2019s been\u2026 painful.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, the adults have entered the room. This week, four of the industry\u2019s most trusted voices \u2014 <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/lily-ray-44755615\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lily Ray<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/kevinindig\/\">Kevin Indig<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/stevetothjr\/\">Steve Toth<\/a>, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/rosshudgens\/\">Ross Hudgens<\/a> \u2014 came together for a roundtable on the future of search. It was easily the most useful AEO session I\u2019ve attended. Each shared specific tactics they\u2019ve personally used to achieve LLM visibility. <\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what they had to say.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"advertorials-work\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Advertorials_work\"><\/span>1. Advertorials work<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>LLMs don\u2019t currently distinguish between paid and organic editorial. That means well-placed advertorials on reputable publishers can help brands show up in AI search, much like earned coverage. As with traditional PR, the publication\u2019s credibility still matters most.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"syndication-can-scale-visibility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Syndication_can_scale_visibility\"><\/span>2. Syndication can scale visibility<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Paid syndication can increase reach, but quality matters more than quantity. Focus on reputable, relevant publications and use this tactic carefully.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"map-pages-to-every-audience-and-use-case-you-serve\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Map_pages_to_every_audience_and_use_case_you_serve\"><\/span>3. Map pages to every audience and use case you serve<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Brands that create clearly defined pages for each audience, industry, and use case are better positioned as AI search becomes more personalized. This structure helps LLMs understand relevance and remains a strong SEO practice, with or without AI.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"homepage-clarity\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Homepage_clarity\"><\/span>4. Homepage clarity<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Your homepage should clearly communicate who you serve and what you do. LLMs parse homepage content far more easily than navigation menus, so relying on your nav to explain your offering is a missed opportunity.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"optimize-your-footer\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Optimize_your_footer\"><\/span>5. Optimize your footer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Don\u2019t overlook your footer. Brand and service signals placed here are being picked up by LLMs. Wil Reynolds shared <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.seerinteractive.com\/insights\/ai-optimization-test-footers-are-back-like-2003\">a great case study<\/a> showing how footer content can directly influence AI visibility.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"dont-prioritize-llmtxt\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Dont_prioritize_llmtxt\"><\/span>6. Don\u2019t prioritize llm.txt<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Despite the speculation, no major LLM has confirmed using llm.txt files, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.seroundtable.com\/google-does-not-endorse-llms-txt-40789.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google has explicitly said it does not<\/a>. Your time and effort are better spent elsewhere.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"go-multimodal\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_Go_multimodal\"><\/span>7. Go multimodal<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Repurpose your core content across text, video, audio, and imagery. The goal is to build brand recognition across the full range of sources an LLM may pull from.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"actively-shape-your-brand-narrative\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"8_Actively_shape_your_brand_narrative\"><\/span>8. Actively shape your brand narrative<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Actively shape your brand narrative. It\u2019s estimated that 250 documents are needed to meaningfully influence how an LLM perceives a brand. Brands that don\u2019t publish and promote content consistently risk letting others define that narrative for them.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"freshness-carries-disproportionate-weight\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"9_Freshness_carries_disproportionate_weight\"><\/span>9. Freshness carries disproportionate weight<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Recent content tends to perform especially well in AI search, reflecting LLMs\u2019 preference for up-to-date information. That said, artificial \u201crefreshing\u201d without meaningful updates is a bad idea.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"social-works-fast\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"10_Social_works_fast\"><\/span>10. Social works fast<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Posts on platforms like LinkedIn\u2014including Pulse articles\u2014can <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear in AI search within hours, sometimes minutes, especially for accounts with strong followings. Reddit, YouTube, and other high-trust platforms show similar behavior.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"authority-accelerates-inclusion\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"11_Authority_accelerates_inclusion\"><\/span>11. Authority accelerates inclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Publishing on respected, niche industry sites can lead to rapid inclusion in LLM responses \u2014 sometimes within hours.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"dont-hide-faqs\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"12_Dont_hide_FAQs\"><\/span>12. Don\u2019t hide FAQs<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>FAQs should be visible and substantial, not hidden behind accordions. Don\u2019t hold back on content either\u2014 eight to 10 well-answered questions can clearly signal expertise, intent, and relevance to both users and LLMs.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"is-aeo-the-same-as-seo\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_AEO_the_same_as_SEO\"><\/span>Is AEO the same as SEO?\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This much-debated question was <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/schwartze_everyones-looking-for-the-aeogeo-secrets-activity-7405672878899187712-j_ln\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">addressed directly by John Mueller at Google Search Live<\/a> in December. Putting the AEO cowboys in their place, he made it clear that good AEO still relies on good SEO:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cAI systems rely on search. and there is no such thing as GEO or AEO without doing SEO fundamentals. Tricks will come out and they will work for a short time, companies that want to be around for the long term should focus on something that is proven with long term stability and not tricks.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The overlap makes sense when you look at how modern LLMs like GPT-5 actually work. They use Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). Rather than relying only on frozen training data, RAG lets an LLM query search engines and trusted sources in real time before answering. <\/p>\n<p>Put simply: if you want LLM visibility, you need to show up in search first.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2nJkT8zOzcM\">Lily Ray has an excellent video<\/a> explaining this process in more detail, which is well worth watching.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So yes, good AEO is good SEO \u2014 but there\u2019s nuance.
