\n\tThe Studio<\/em> directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg honored Catherine O\u2019Hara during their acceptance speech for outstanding directorial achievement for a comedy series<\/a> at the 2026 DGA\u00a0Awards. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHonestly, there\u2019s no one we wish we could thank in person at this moment more than we would love to thank Catherine O\u2019Hara,\u201d Rogen said, which led the audience to erupt in app<\/a>lause, as Goldberg added, \u201cWe grew up in Canada, and she is and was quite literally our idol since we were children.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tO\u2019Hara portrayed movie executive Patty Leigh in Rogen and Goldberg\u2019s Apple TV comedy. She appeared in all 10 episodes of The Studio<\/em>\u2018s hit first season, and notably earned herself a 2025 Emmy nomination for best supporting actress in a comedy series. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Beetlejuice<\/em> actress died Jan. 30 at her home in Los Angeles after a brief illness. She was 71. <\/p>\n

\n\tRogen cited the two-time Emmy winner\u2019s iconic role in the Home Alone<\/em> franchise as a moment that made him want to make his own films. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHome Alone<\/em> honestly is the movie that made me want to make movies in a lot of ways,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I mean, in that movie she\u2019s always yelling, \u2018Kevin, Kevin,\u2019 and on set she would always be yelling, \u2018Evan, Evan!\u2019 And every time she did it, we were like, \u2018It\u2019s like Home Alone<\/em>.’\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe best part of her is she showed that you can be an utter genius and also the nicest person in the entire world,\u201d Goldberg continued. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEvery day we worked very hard to make the show good enough to warrant her time and her presence. So, ultimately, we would like to thank the DGA for this, but we would mostly like to thank Catherine O\u2019Hara for being such a wonderful person,\u201d Rogen said to conclude their acceptance speech. <\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing O\u2019Hara\u2019s death, The Studio<\/em> cast, crew and producers paid tribute to their late star, with Apple TV and Lionsgate Television sharing in a joint statement, \u201cWe are all heartbroken by the loss of Catherine O\u2019Hara.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tElsewhere on Saturday night\u2019s awards ceremony, Paul Thomas Anderson won the top prize of outstanding directorial achievement in theatrical feature film for One Battle After Another<\/em>. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis is an incredible, incredible honor. We\u2019re going to take it with the love that it\u2019s given and the appreciation of all our comrades in this room,\u201d Anderson said during his acceptance speech, noting \u201cobviously we are up here minus one,\u201d paying tribute to first director Adam Somner, who passed away from cancer in November 2024.<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier, Christopher Nolan kicked off the night with his first presidential speech since he was elected DGA president, where he acknowledged \u201cthat our members are having very hard times.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTonight is a celebration of extraordinary work and it should be a very joyful one, but I do want to start by just acknowledging that our members are having very hard times. In 2024, our employment in our guild was down about 40 percent, and that was followed by another decline in \u201925,\u201d Nolan added. \u201cThe amount of money that people spend on our work, on entertainment, is very, very stable. Audiences are invested in us, we have to be sure that we\u2019re able to repay that investment.\u201d<\/p>\n
