\n The Emmys had its own version of the Oscars wrong-winner gaffe Saturday night \u2014 with Jason Bateman wrongly named for an award won by \u201cThis Is Us\u201d guest star Ron Cephas Jones.<\/p>\n

In a voice-over announcement during the online creative arts Emmys \u2014 a precursor to Sunday\u2019s main ceremony \u2014 Bateman was declared the winner for his guest app<\/a>earance on HBO\u2019s \u201cThe Outsider,\u201d while the screen correctly displayed Jones\u2019 name.<\/p>\n

Confused viewers on FXX then had to wait until after a commercial break for an on-screen message that read, \u201cOur apologies, an incorrect winner has been announced. We\u2019re fixing it now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones\u2019 name was again displayed \u2014 without an announcement \u2014 with the Television Academy also tweeting confirmation<\/a> that he was the victor. There was no immedia<\/a>te explanation for the mistake.<\/p>\n

Given the virtual event\u2019s lack of on-stage presenters and a theater audience, the error was far less dramatic than the 2017 Oscars mix-up, in which Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced \u201cLa La Land\u201d as the best picture instead of winner \u201cMoonlight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones was good-natured about the mistake when he fielded questions virtually afterward \u2014 and focused instead on how he and his daughter, Jasmine Cephas Jones, made Emmy history as the first father and daughter to win in the same year.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy heart just explodes when I think about her and watch her and the success that she\u2019s had,\u201d he said of his daughter, whose short-form series acting trophy came earlier this week for Quibi\u2019s \u201c#FreeRayshawn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bateman on Sunday will have another shot to get his name read out \u2014 this time for real \u2014 as he competes for the best actor honors for \u201cOzark.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s online creative arts Emmys was the precursor to Sunday\u2019s main ceremony and the culmination of a week of events honoring technical and other achievements.<\/p>\n

Other winners Saturday included Eddie Murphy, whose return to \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d after more than three decades earned the star his first Emmy Award, for guest comedy series actor.<\/p>\n

Maya Rudolph claimed the category\u2019s guest actress trophy for her portrayal of Sen. Kamala Harris, two days after claiming a voice-over performance Emmy for \u201cBig Mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cherry Jones won the guest drama actress trophy for \u201cSuccession.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rudolph, also nominated in the comedy category for her guest role on \u201cThe Good Place,\u201d paid tribute to Ruth Bader Ginsburg after the telecast.<\/p>\n

The robe worn by Rudolph\u2019s judge character was modeled on that of the Supreme Court associate justice, who died Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you think of a judge, when you think of all-knowing, when you think of powerful, when you think of all good, yeah, we modeled her robe after RBG, so that was pretty cool,\u201d Rudolph said.<\/p>\n
