\n Eddie Murphy has finally won an Emmy, scoring the coveted statue for his work on \u201cSaturday Night Live\u2019\u2019 \u2014 40 years after his first app<\/a>earance on the show.<\/p>\n

The comedia<\/a>n \u2014 who reprised some of his classic characters, including Gumby and Buckwheat, for his Emmy-winning episode of the late-night TV show in December \u2014 laughed and thanked \u201cSNL\u201d creator Lorne Michaels during a short\u00a0 videotaped acceptance speech.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is 40 years since I started \u2018Saturday Night Live.\u2019 This is my first Emmy, so thank you so much,\u2019\u2019 Murphy, 59, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a very, very special thing for me, to come back and have the show turn out the way it did. I\u2019m still floating from it,\u201d the actor said.<\/p>\n

December\u2019s show was the first time Murphy had appeared on \u201cSNL\u201d since 1984. His first appearance was in 1980.<\/p>\n

His Emmy was for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.<\/p>\n

Among those Murphy beat out for the prize was Brad Pitt, who also was nominated for an \u201cSNL\u201d appearance.<\/p>\n
