\n A crowd of protesters chanted \u201cditch Mitch\u201d outside Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell\u2019s Kentucky home after the Republican leader said he would move to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

About 100 protesters gathered outside McConnell\u2019s Louisville home on Saturday after he said he would push for a Senate vote on filling the seat with the presidential election is less than seven weeks away, the Louisville Courier Journal reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The demonstrators called out \u201cHey, hey, ho, ho, Mitch McConnell has got to go,\u201d \u201cvote him out\u201d and ditch Mitch.\u201d<\/p>\n

One arrest was reported during the protests that ended after about three hours.<\/p>\n

The protesters said the voters should have a say in November\u2019s election on whether President Trump will remain in office before a nominee is voted on in the Senate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m disgusted that Senator McConnell would treat this opportunity in a complete different manner than he treated the opportunity when there was a vacancy when Obama was nine or 10 months away from the election,\u201d Laura Johnsrude, one of the protesters, told the Courier Journal. \u201cI\u2019m not surprised, but I am disgusted. I think that\u2019s app<\/a>alling.\u201d<\/p>\n

McConnell in 2016 refused to allow a vote for Merrick Garland \u2014 former President Barack Obama\u2019s nominee to fill the vacancy created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia \u2014 because it was an election year.<\/p>\n

McConnell said the situation in 2020 is different.<\/p>\n

He said the American people re-elected a GOP majority in the Senate in 2016 and expanded it in 2018 \u201cbecause we pledged to work with President Trump and support his agenda, particularly his outstanding appointments to the federal judiciary. Once again, we will keep our promise.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
