\n\tFox is making another app<\/a>ointment with Best Medicine<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe network has renewed the dramedy starring Josh Charles for a second season in 2026-27. The pickup is not much a surprise, as Best Medicine<\/em> has put up very solid ratings through its first season so far.<\/p>\n

\n\tAdditionally, The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> has learned exclusively that Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings, The Residence<\/em>) will guest star in the final two episodes of season one as an ex of Charles\u2019 Dr. Martin Best. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBest Medicine<\/em> quickly became a breakout for us this season, blending sharp humor with real heart,\u201d said Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn. \u201c[Showrunner] Liz Tuccillo brings a distinctive creative voice to the series<\/a>, and Josh Charles leads an exceptional cast that audiences have embraced. We, along with Propagate, are excited to build on that momentum in season two.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBest Medicine<\/em> is an adaptation of the long-running British series Doc Martin<\/em>, with Charles playing a former top surgeon in Boston who leaves that life behind and becomes a general<\/a> practitioner in a small fishing village where he spent his childhood summers. Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra, Annie Potts and Cree also star. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe show has performed well for Fox this season, averaging 6 million cross-platform viewers over seven days. The Jan. 4 series premiere has accumulated 12.6 million viewers to date. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn the final episodes of season one, Coupe will play Dr. Eden Montgomery, who dated Martin during med school and for a few years after that. Her character is described as the female version of Martin: awkward and direct but self-confident and very intelligent. Now a fertility specialist, Eden comes to Port Wenn to help a patient and to win Martin back. Coupe is repped by Verve and Ames\/Hashagan Entertainment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tFox Entertainment Studios produces Best Medicine<\/em>. Tuccillo executive produces with Ben Silverman, Rodney Ferrell and Howard T. Owens of Propagate Content (which brought the Doc Martin<\/em> format to the U.S.) and Doc Martin<\/em> EPs Mark Crowdy and Philippa Braithwaite.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
