Rather than forcing Search campaigns into Performance Max, Google went the other direction \u2014 bringing PMax-style automation into classic Search. The result is three core features:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Search Term Matching (broad match expansion plus keywordless targeting), <\/li>\n<li>Text Customization (dynamic ad copy), and <\/li>\n<li>Final URL Expansion (automated landing page selection).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"733\" height=\"424\" http: alt=\"AI Max Core Features\" class=\"wp-image-470933\" src=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/wp-content\/seloads\/2026\/03\/aI-Max-core-features.png.webp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"733\" height=\"424\" src=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/wp-content\/seloads\/2026\/03\/aI-Max-core-features.png.webp\" alt=\"AI Max Core Features\" class=\"wp-image-470933\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Four pitfalls Smarter Ecommerce identified:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Broad match cannibalization<\/strong>: Up to 63% of the time, recycling existing coverage rather than finding new queries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Competitor hijacking<\/strong>: In one account, AI Max scaled so aggressively into competitor brand terms that it consumed 69% of total Search impressions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reporting overload<\/strong>: Search term and ad combination reports can run to tens of thousands of rows, making manual auditing nearly impossible without automation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Search Partner Network blowouts<\/strong>: One campaign saw half a million monthly impressions land on SPN at a 0.07% conversion rate, versus 3.04% on standard Google Search.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Between the lines<\/strong>. Google\u2019s 14% uplift stat conspicuously excludes retail \u2014 an omission Ryan flags as significant for ecommerce advertisers. There\u2019s also a deeper irony: you\u2019re most likely to adopt AI Max if you\u2019re already running Broad Match, DSA, and PMax \u2014 yet Google says those accounts will see the lowest incremental benefit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s next. <\/strong>In a conversation with Ryan, Google Ads Liaison Ginny Marvin confirmed that Google plans to deprecate Dynamic Search Ads and migrate the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> into AI Max for Search. About 16% of advertisers are testing AI Max, and few have gone all in.
