\n\tHarry Styles may be hosting next week\u2019s episode of Saturday Night Live<\/em>, but that didn\u2019t stop him from making a surprise app<\/a>earance during Ryan Gosling\u2018s hosting stint.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Project Hail Mary<\/em> actor returned to the sketch comedy series<\/a> on (you guessed it) Saturday night, where he hosted the sketch comedy series for his fourth time. After beginning his monologue by recounting how March is a great time to host SNL<\/em>, Gosling looked in the crowd and said, \u201cIs that Harry Styles?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe camera panned over to the Grammy-winning artist, which led the audience to erupt in applause and the actor to question, \u201cWhat are you doing here, man?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWell, I\u2019m hosting next week and it\u2019s been a while, so I just wanted to watch, get a feel for it,\u201d Styles responded.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYeah, that\u2019s so professional, that\u2019s awesome you\u2019re here. I just wish someone would have told me,\u201d Gosling added. \u201cI have a new movie coming out, it\u2019s called Project Harry Styles<\/em>. Nope \u2014 it\u2019d be a good movie, though. \u2026 And people are saying it\u2019s like E.T.<\/em> meets Interstellar<\/em>, which is crazy because those are like, what, two of the best films of all time, so they\u2019re kind of like saying it\u2019s like, what, double that? I don\u2019t know, I didn\u2019t say it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve always loved making films about space. It\u2019s just something about them gives me perspective,\u201d Gosling continued, as he trailed off about the \u201cperspective\u201d making space-related films gives him, before the camera panned over to Styles instead of himself. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m sorry, why are we on Harry\u2019s side?\u201d he questioned, to which the \u201cAperture\u201d singer responded, \u201cI don\u2019t know, I\u2019m just listening.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Oscar nominee replied: \u201cWell, could you listen less cool? I think your coolness is becoming a bit of an issue.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tLater in the monologue, a group of dancers dressed like aliens joined the actor asking if they were still going to perform their planned number. Gosling ensured they would put on the performance, to a song from his movie Project Hail Mary<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s very poignant and it\u2019s the anthem of our generation. Some have said it\u2019s called \u2018Sign of the Times,\u2019 and oh my God, it\u2019s by Harry Styles,\u201d he said. \u201cNow I gotta sing it in front of him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGosling went on to perform a hesitant rendition of Styles\u2019 \u201cSign of the Times,\u201d before he began belting out, \u201cI\u2019m just Ken,\u201d lyrics from the Oscar-nominated Barbie<\/em> song. <\/p>\n

\n\tStyles\u2019 dropped his fourth studio album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally<\/em> on Friday, marking his first release in four years. His cameo during Gosling\u2019s monologue arrives just one week before he\u2019ll serve as host and musical guest for March 14\u2019s episode. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn the cold open, Colin Jost joined to impersonate Pete Hegseth, who addressed the press amid the United States\u2019 conflict with Iran. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAlright, listen up, dipsticks, OK? Cause this is actually serious, OK? As you may have seen from our epic Pentagram meme drops, we\u2019re treating Iran like a breathalyzer in my car and blowing it the hell up,\u201d he said. \u201cThe good news<\/a> is our operation couldn\u2019t be going better and everyone loves it.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tJost\u2019s Hegseth later added, \u201cWhat is happening? OK, I\u2019ll tell you what\u2019s happening. OK, we don\u2019t know, OK? And that\u2019s the whole point. If we don\u2019t know what we\u2019re doing, then Iran definitely doesn\u2019t know what we\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAshley Padilla was also in the cold open to portray former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, with Jost\u2019s Hegseth inviting her onto the stage, noting she\u2019d been \u201creassigned under the bus.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI just want to make it clear that I didn\u2019t get fired, I self-deported,\u201d Padilla\u2019s Noem said upon her arrival. \u201cAnd though I may be leaving this job, I will not be ending my mission. As I told my plastic surgeon, the work is never done.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier in the week, Gosling and SNL<\/em> poked fun at the many times the actor has stepped into the role as host. In a promo, the Barbie<\/em> star mistakenly thought he was joining SNL<\/em>\u2018s esteemed five-timers club (for those who have hosted the show five times), though cast member Mikey Day reminded him it was actually only his fourth leading appearance. <\/p>\n

\n\tGosling he made his SNL<\/em> debut on Dec. 5, 2015; his second appearance on Sept. 30, 2017; and his most recent hosting gig was on April 13, 2024. He made one additional cameo on April 6, 2024. <\/p>\n

\n\tGosling is currently on a press tour for\u00a0Project Hail Mary<\/em>, which releases on March 20. The film is an adaptation of Andy Weir\u2019s bestselling sci-fi book, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe three-time Academy Award nominee served as the 14th host of season 51, where he was joined by musical guest Gorillaz. Last week, Heated Rivalry<\/em> breakout Connor Storrie hosted SNL<\/em>, and Styles will make his first hosting appearance on the show in six years as next Saturday\u2019s host and musical guest.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlongside Storrie, Bad Bunny,\u00a0Amy Poehler,\u00a0Sabrina Carpenter,\u00a0Miles Teller,\u00a0Nikki Glaser,\u00a0Glen Powell,\u00a0Melissa McCarthy,\u00a0Josh O\u2019Connor,\u00a0Ariana Grande,\u00a0Finn Wolfhard,\u00a0Teyana Taylor and Alexander Skarsgard have already hosted season 51 of SNL<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
