\n\tChalk up another award-season win for One Battle After Another.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n\tColin Anderson has taken the prize for camera operator of the year in film for his work on the Paul Thomas Anderson epic, whose tableaux went from armed border areas to desert highway chases. The Society of Camera Operators honor comes on the heels of a slew of technical prizes for the movie, including from the American Cinema Editors, the Art Directors Guild and the British Society of Cinematographers<\/a>; the American Society of Cinematographers decides Sunday. The award was announced in a livestreamed ceremony Saturday night.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the television side, Mark Goellnicht won for camera operator of the year for his work on the acclaimed \u201cThe Oner\u201d episode of App<\/a>le TV+\u2019s The Studio<\/em>, in which Sarah Polley\u2019s character attempts to direct a movie and Seth Rogen\u2019s tries to oversee it in a one-take hourlong chaos extravaganza. Goellnicht is a veteran operator with Mad Max: Fury Road <\/em>and The Great Gatsby<\/em> among his credits.<\/p>\n

\n\tCamera operators work closely with cinematographers and directors to ensure the equipment is best positioned and maintained to capture the intended shot \u2014 \u201cthe connective tissue between vision and audience,\u201d per Society of Camera Operators president Matthew Moriarty.<\/p>\n

\n\tMoriarty also noted in a statement how \u201cThe past several years have presented extraordinary challenges for our industry\u201d \u2014 presumably referring to AI \u2014 \u201cyet our work has remained bold, inventive, and deeply human.\u201d He said this was a testament to \u201cthe enduring strength and resilience of the camera community.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnderson is no stranger to big-time movies<\/a> or PTA; he worked on Star Trek and Star Wars films as well as\u00a0There Will Be Blood<\/em>,\u00a0The Master<\/em>,\u00a0Inherent Vice<\/em> and\u00a0Phantom Thread. <\/em> He was also nominated this year, against himself, for his work on Marty Supreme<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tNor is he a stranger to awards: the Society of Camera Operators six years ago gave him a lifetime achievement prize<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
