and their own lead lawyer.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Attorneys <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> representing a bipartisan coalition of 28 states <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/03\/09\/live-nation-states-oppose-settlement-agreement-00819029\">announced their intention to continue the lawsuit<\/a> the same afternoon. Now Judge Arun Subramanian has ordered the states and Live Nation to make an agreement by the end of the week.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            The terms of the settlement would see Live Nation cap its service fees at 15%, divest 13 exclusive booking agreements with smaller amphitheaters, and allow third-party competitors like SeatGeek and StubHub to sell primary tickets through the platform. These <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2026-03-10\/sorry-swifties-live-nation-settlement-wont-help-fans-much\">changes are cosmetic at best<\/a>, keeping Live Nation&#8217;s self-reinforcing &#8220;<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.promarket.org\/2024\/07\/01\/the-government-has-a-compelling-monopolization-lawsuit-against-live-nation-ticketmaster\/\">flywheel<\/a>&#8221; model intact, though it remains to be seen what, if any, terms LiveNation agrees to in a settlement with the states.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            In a Tuesday morning hearing, Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino and DOJ antitrust head Omar Assefi answered questions from the judge, who had <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/03\/10\/politics\/live-nation-ticketmaster-justice-department-settlement-controversy\">harsh words for their lack of communication regarding the imminent settlement<\/a>. However Subramanian declined to rule on several plaintiff states&#8217; motion for a mistrial, instead directing Rapino, Assefi, and representatives for the states to reach their own settlement.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Per <i>The Prospect<\/i>, the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/prospect.org\/2026\/03\/09\/live-nation-settlement-spurs-chaos-in-court\/\">terms of the settlement include a fine equal to three days&#8217; revenue<\/a>. <i>New York Post<\/i> described the terms as a &#8220;<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/10\/business\/live-nation-ceo-urged-by-frustrated-judge-to-settle-with-states-after-stunning-deal-with-feds-tickle-on-the-wrist\/\">tickle on the wrist<\/a>.&#8221;\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            But how exactly did the DOJ reach a settlement with Live Nation when the first week of the trial was so clearly in the prosecution&#8217;s favor? Last year they <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketnews.com\/2025\/04\/live-nation-donated-500000-to-trump-inauguration-committee\/\">donated $500,000 to Trump&#8217;s inauguration<\/a>, put his <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/music\/news\/live-nation-names-richard-grenell-trump-kennedy-center-to-board-1236405219\/\">friend Rich Grennell on the company board<\/a>, and then brought in Trump allies <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.semafor.com\/article\/02\/08\/2026\/live-nation-settlement-talks-are-dividing-trumps-justice-department\">Kellyanne Conway and Mike Davis to advise on the talks<\/a>.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            The shock settlement is just the latest casualty of the broader erosion of antitrust protections under the Trump administration. In other cases, like <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/story\/2025-11-18\/meta-wins-ftc-antitrust-case-over-instagram-whatsapp-acquisitions\">FTC v. Meta<\/a>, prosecutors have enabled ridiculously broad market definitions to let corporations off the hook.
