Atlantic), isn\u2019t hip-hop, but rather neo-soul.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            The Louisville-born r<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er\u2019s genre switch comes during a moment when the question of how white rappers engage with historically Black genres is an <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/08\/15\/g-s1-17039\/post-malone-f-1-trillion-country-hip-hop\">ongoing<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4HuRZ3vzT0s\">debate<\/a>.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n I&#8217;m hyper aware of the politics &#8230; that safer landing spot that a lot of my white contemporaries have found. Dilla, Mos Def, and others, notably centered around sessions at Electric Lady.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            Others online are <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/fahshohim\/status\/2032313184384651688\">making<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/john_lena20\/status\/2032311936675647673\">jokes<\/a> that Harlow is dressing like early aughts Mos Def or Common, with his penchant for <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DVq9ip4EWdy\/\">creative hats<\/a>, oversized scarves, and sweaters. The moment went viral and Brandy recorded a playful freestyle response over the beat to Harlow\u2019s hit \u201cGlamorous,\u201d rapping, \u201c\u201cPainting pictures, Cinderella scriptures, but that don\u2019t mean jack in the streets \/ Jack of all trades, now I\u2019m here jacking for beats.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Beyond the political element of his chosen genre, Harlow insists that his creative choices on <i>Monica<\/i> were primarily musical. \u201cThere were multiple things appealing about this [musical] route, but I also came to the decision off of what feels good in my ear,\u201d he said in his <i>Popcast<\/i> interview.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            <i>Monica<\/i> is available to stream now.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px;
