\n\tThe team behind They Will Kill You<\/em> had a very clear vision in mind for how to make sure that viewers will enjoy their stay with the horror-comedy feature. <\/p>\n

\n\tWriter-director Kirill Sokolov\u2019s film premiered at SXSW on Tuesday ahead of Warner Bros. releasing it in theaters March 27. Stars Zazie Beetz, Myha\u2019la, Paterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham and Patricia Arquette were among those taking part in an onstage conversation after the screening, along with co-writer Alex Litvak and producers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti.<\/p>\n

\n\tThey Will Kill You<\/em>\u00a0centers on a newly hired housekeeper (Beetz) at a mysterious New York City hotel known as the Virgil. She soon learns that the building is the headquarters for a satanic cult, with the members having chosen to murder her as a sacrifice.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis movie is very different,\u201d Sokolov told the crowd as he thanked the studio for believing in the film. \u201cIt\u2019s very crazy, and it\u2019s very original.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIndeed, the gory and action-packed film has plenty of absurdist flair, including a severed body part getting a surprising spotlight at various points in the movie. That said, Sokolov was dead set on making sure things didn\u2019t get overly outlandish. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEvery single person I talked [to] about this script<\/a>, our first conversation was, \u2018Please, just don\u2019t make it camp. I hope it won\u2019t be campy,’\u201d said the filmmaker known for the 2021 Russian feature No Looking Back<\/em>. \u201cAnd I promised everyone it won\u2019t be, and guys, you can judge.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThat led Arquette to clarify, \u201cI love camp,\u201d spurring a burst of applause from the audience. <\/p>\n

\n\tBeetz praised the screenplay as one that she just could not put down. \u201cSometimes, it can take me a long time to get through something, but this one was just written with such humor and such pace,\u201d she said. \u201cI was laughing and just engaged the entire time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFor her part, Graham noted her appreciation that They Will Kill You<\/em> allows its female characters to hold their own in the limb-detaching battles.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cActually, I want to shout out Kirill because usually there\u2019s a bunch of guys in the movie, and there\u2019s one female character,\u201d the actress said. \u201cYou wrote a lot of great female characters in this movie, so thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
