\n\tFilmmaking duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller\u2019s golden touch continues with space epic Project Hail Mary<\/em><\/a>, starring Ryan Gosling.<\/p>\n

\n\tFriday\u2019s opening-day gross of $33.1 million, including $12 million in previews, puts the film on course for a better-than-expected domestic opening of $77 million-plus, according to Amazon MGM Studios.<\/p>\n

\n\tOnly three non-sequel, non-franchise films have opened above $50 million in the post-pandemic era: Oppenheimer<\/em>, F1: The Movie<\/em> and It Ends With Us<\/em>. And only two, Oppenheimer<\/em> and It Ends With Us<\/em>, crossed $70 million. In terms of the genre itself, Project Hail Mary<\/em> would share rarefied air with Interstellar\u2019s<\/em> opening in 2014.<\/p>\n

\n\tHeading into the weekend, Project<\/em> Hail Mary<\/em> was looking at a debut of $50 million-plus, but quickly went into hyperdrive when critics and audiences<\/a> embraced the warm-hearted, adventure-action movie in almost equal measure. And it certainly doesn\u2019t hurt to have screenwriter Drew Goddard back in the fold after successfully adapting another Weir novel, The<\/em> Martian<\/em>, for the big screen.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe movie, also starring Sandra H\u00fcller and James Ortiz, is opening in 82 markets around the globe timed to its U.S. launch, including\u00a0the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Korea, Japan and China.<\/p>\n

\n\tAnother strong player of the weekend is Dhurandhar: Th<\/em>e Revenge<\/em>, the latest installment in the Indian action-thriller starring Ranveer Singh. The pic looks to come in fourth with more than $10 million.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmong the weekend\u2019s other new wide releases to watch is Searchlight Pictures\u2019 horror-comedy\u00a0Ready or Not 2: Here I Come<\/em>. The film, directed by filmmaking duo\u00a0Radio Silence\u00a0(Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett), stars\u00a0Samara Weaving\u00a0reprising her role as the fan-favorite, Grace.<\/p>\n

\n\tReady or Not 2<\/em>, receiving solid reviews and audience scores, is hoping for a fourth-place with an estimated $9 million. Internationally, the\u00a0film also. launches in the U.K., Australia and Brazil, along with additional smaller markets. It will be open almost everywhere by mid-April.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmong holdovers, Pixar and Disney\u2019s Hoppers<\/em> are holding firmly at No. 2.<\/p>\n
