fast-fashion brand, dropped a bombshell: they had inked a \u201ctwo-year creative partnership\u201d with the famed designer and couturier John Galliano. Galliano would now be in charge of re-envisioning the brand\u2019s archives, \u201cdeconstructing and reconfiguring\u201d pieces through \u201ca <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of seasonal collections\u201d twice a year, starting in September. Naturally, longtime <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessoffashion.com\/briefings\/retail\/the-zara-fication-of-john-galliano\/\">fashion aficionados and insiders balked at the press release<\/a>.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            Galliano\u2019s new \u201ctemporary residence\u201d at the brand marks his first foray back on the fashion map after departing as the Creative Director at Maison Margiela in 2024; before that, the designer conjured a legacy at Dior (before he was fired in 2011 after going on an anti-Semitic tirade). Considering his highly regarded resum\u00e9, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.com\/@gabriellak_j\/post\/DV_F-n9Dql7?xmt=AQF0bgrmu06rQvJSGEh-kBmH0K0ECgqM2OyPtDsiXhzWcw\">Galliano\u2019s sudden mass-market pivot to Zara was a shock<\/a>.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-278998\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Zara has attracted one-off collaborations with fashion\u2019s top talents for years, but its deal with Galliano is a first. Lately, it\u2019s become a growing trend in the industry for top-shelf designers to jump ship for positions at major retailers. In 2024, Uniqlo poached Creative Director Clare Waight Keller from Givenchy; that same year, Zac Posen joined Gap as Executive Vice President and Creative Director; in 2025, Jonathan Saunders left Diane von Furstenberg to become Chief Creative Officer of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/hmgroup.com\/news\/other-stories-appoints-jonathan-saunders-as-chief-creative-officer\/\">&amp; Other Stories<\/a>, a subsidiary of H&amp;M. What\u2019s the reason behind the shift?\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Part of it could be rehabilitation. With how polarizing fast fashion has become, mass-market brands \u2014 including the aforementioned labels \u2014 understandably are wanting to shed the skins of their reputations and distinguish themselves from the likes of ultra-fast fashion chains such as Shein and Temu. Zara, specifically, has long been trying to distance itself from controversy, though its sustainability and labor practices are always pulled into question. But by affiliating themselves with bigger names, Zara is inching closer to the rebrand it desperately craves: In February, Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny wore a custom Zara outfit for what is now the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=G6FuWd4wNd8\">most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in history<\/a>; Gap&#8217;s public image is at an all-time high \u2014 I see nothing but heart-eye emojis flooding the comment sections under their ultra-viral ads with girl group <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DNinV17tcaU\/\">KATSEYE<\/a> and Puerto Rican musician <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DVvru0YlWOB\/\">Young Miko<\/a>.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Ironically, I\u2019ve noticed that this fast-fashion switchup seems to mirror the celebrity-to-designer pipeline that\u2019s been simultaneously emerging. As designer brands recruit A-listers to help promote and boost their image, mass-market labels are seemingly doing the same with high-fashion designers. All these changes might feel sacrilegious to those who value quality control and craftsmanship and the ethics of \u201cpreventing an exuberant amount of waste,\u201d but these concerns are ultimately for the minority. With unemployment rates at <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/7341141\/unemployment-report-trump-economy\/\">record-highs<\/a>, and wars raging on, the mid-market was always going to boom anyway, according to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/how-quiet-luxury-changed-dupe-culture\">Vogue Business<\/a>.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-279000\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Given these trying times, it\u2019s not far-fetched to assume that Galliano, as well as his peers, also jumped for a consistent check. For Galliano, the opportunity is also uncharted territory. \u201cI\u2019m super excited, because it\u2019s not something I\u2019ve done before, so that kind of tickles me\u2014the newness, the excitement, the actual process,\u201d he told <i><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/o\/nEveQ\/https:\/\/www.vogue.co.uk\/article\/john-galliano-zara\">Vogue<\/a><\/i> about the partnership. \u201cEven with my team, I have to keep reminding them daily: No, it\u2019s not this, and it\u2019s not that. We are re-authoring. It\u2019s been quite fun, and I just think it\u2019s a very positive thing to be doing at this time, and really sustainable from a creative point of view, which is super interesting to me.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Still, I can\u2019t shake the feeling that the lines between luxury and fast fashion are blurring a little too much for my liking. Gallino and Zara are likely setting a precedent for other multimillion-dollar brands to follow in their footsteps.
