\n Seattle protesters continued their fourth day occupying the blocks around an abandoned police precinct Friday, as the city\u2019s top cop said she wants back inside \u201cas soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIdeally, we just need to get back into the building,\u201d Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best told local station KIRO-7.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are looking for a plan, but we want to make sure we modulate anything that we\u2019re doing,\u201d Best told the station.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t want to exacerbate or intensify or incite problems that are going to lead to harm to the officers or the people who are standing by,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that several are armed. We want to make sure that we are being very thoughtful about how we respond.\u201d<\/p>\n

At least one protester who\u2019s taken on a leadership role in the so-called \u201cCHAZ\u201d or \u201cCapitol Hill Autonomous Zone\u201d\u2013 a local rapp<\/a>er who goes by Raz Simone, has been on social media<\/a> patrolling the area with a gun holstered to his leg.<\/p>\n

Thousands of protesters have been flooding into the six-block area surrounding the city\u2019s East Precinct since Monday night, when police packed up their riot gear and boarded up the building, abandoning the area after several nights of unrest there.<\/p>\n

City leaders told KIRO-7 that they are talking with the protesters \u2014 but there has not yet been a discussion of how or when the police will get their precinct back.<\/p>\n

Protesters have gained entry into the precinct, causing damage, the station reported Best saying.<\/p>\n

Response times to 911 calls in the precinct have trip<\/a>led due to officers not having access to the building, Best also said.<\/p>\n

Best has also implied that the decision to abandon the precinct to the protesters had come from not from her, but from Mayor Jenny Durkan.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou fought for days to protect it,\u201d she told her officers in a YouTube message Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI asked you to stand on that line, day in and day out, to be pelted with projectiles, to be screamed at, threatened, and in some cases hurt \u2014 and then to have a change of course nearly two weeks in, it seems like an insult to you and our community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUltimately the city had other plans for the building, and relented to severe public pressure,\u201d she said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
