That\u2019s according to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, speaking on the Cheeky Pint podcast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why we care.<\/strong> Google is signaling a move from information retrieval to task execution. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Search becoming agentic.<\/strong> Traditional search behavior is already changing and will continue to, Pichai said.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cIf I fast-forward, a lot of what are just information-seeking queries will be agentic in Search. You\u2019ll be completing tasks. You\u2019ll have many threads running.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pichai also described a future where Google Search acts less like a list of results and more like a system that coordinates actions:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cSearch would be an agent manager in which you\u2019re doing a lot of things. I think in some ways, I use Antigravity today, and you have a bunch of agents doing stuff. I can see search doing versions of those things, and you\u2019re getting a bunch of stuff done.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"h-ai-mode-is-already-changing-queries\"><strong>AI Mode is already changing queries. <\/strong>Users are already adapting their behavior in Google\u2019s AI-powered search experiences, Pichai said:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cBut today in AI Mode in Search, people do deep research queries. That doesn\u2019t quite fit the definition of what you\u2019re saying. But people adapted to that. I think people will do long-running tasks.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"h-search-vs-gemini-overlap\"><strong>Search vs. Gemini overlap.<\/strong> Despite the rise of Gemini, Pichai said Google isn\u2019t replacing Search with a chatbot. Instead, the two will coexist \u2014\u00a0and diverge (echoing what Liz Reid said last month):<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cWe are doing both Search and Gemini. They will overlap in certain ways. They will profoundly diverge in certain ways.
