Jake Reiner<\/strong> is speaking out for the first time about the death of his parents, Rob<\/strong> and Michele Reiner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In an essay published on Substack<\/strong> on Friday, the 34-year-old detailed the exact moment he found out the pair died on December 14, 2025. Sadly, Jake had been at the celebration of life for a friend who passed away. He was already grieving and never expected to receive a call from his younger sister, Romy Reiner<\/strong>, that would change his life forever that day:<\/p>\n

\u201cI was in Union Station at a celebration of life for one of my best friends, Christian Anderson, who died in October. It was at that moment I received a call from my sister Romy telling me our father was dead. Minutes later, she called back telling me our mother was also dead.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Heartbreaking. Jake continued:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 45-minute Lyft ride from downtown to the west side was unendurable. My world, as I knew it, had collapsed. I was in a trance. The only thing I could focus on was that I needed to get to my childhood home. I needed to get to my sister. I needed to figure out what the hell just happ<\/a>ened.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He probably never expected what happened \u2014 that Rob and Michele had been murdered. And not only that, their brother, Nick Reiner<\/strong>, allegedly killed them. Jake noted that \u201cthis is my story\u201d and Romy \u201cwill tell hers in her own way and in her time.\u201d Finding your parents brutally murdered is one of the most horrific things to go through. We hope she takes all the time she needs to heal before speaking out.<\/p>\n

Jake went on to say:<\/p>\n

\u201cI was robbed of so many things that day. My parents won\u2019t be at my wedding, they won\u2019t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won\u2019t get to see me have the successful career I\u2019m still seeking. It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me. Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time. It\u2019s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it\u2019s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to Jake, \u201cevery day since then has been horrendous\u201d for his family. He specifically cannot help but constantly think about how \u201cfrightened\u201d his parents were:<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t even begin to put myself in my parents\u2019 shoes, but one thing I keep coming back to is how frightened they must have been. They were the last people in the world to deserve what happened to them. They deserved to be loved, they deserved to be respected, and above all they deserved to be appreciated for how much they gave to all three of us and to the world. They should be enjoying the rest of their lives peacefully while growing older together. Instead, that was ripped away from them, from me, from Romy, and there was nothing we could do about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
