But both still get fewer clicks than searches with no AI Overview:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>No AI Overview:<\/strong> ~3.3% CTR<\/li>\n<li><strong>AI Overview with citation:<\/strong> ~2.1% CTR<\/li>\n<li><strong>AI Overview without citation:<\/strong> ~0.9% CTR<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><strong>Where clicks are shifting<\/strong><\/strong>. Searches without AI Overviews are getting more valuable. CTR on those queries increased from 2.8% in early 2025 to 3.8% by February 2026.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One reason: AI Overviews handle quick answers. The users who still click through are looking for more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>AI Overviews vary by query intent.<\/strong> AI Overviews show up unevenly across query types:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Informational:<\/strong> ~36% show AIOs<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transactional:<\/strong> ~5%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Comparison:<\/strong> ~95%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Question:<\/strong> ~86%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Yes, but<\/strong>. Lower CTR doesn\u2019t always mean worse results. In some cases, clicks stayed flat while impressions grew. This suggests brands may have appeared in more AI Overviews even as CTR dropped.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paid search is far more stable.<\/strong> When Google showed an AI Overview, paid CTR rose slightly from 14.6% to 16.2%. When it didn\u2019t, CTR fell from 26% to 21.8%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why we care<\/strong>. Google\u2019s AI Overviews aren\u2019t just reducing clicks \u2014 they\u2019re redistributing them, sending more traffic to sites they cite and far less to those they don\u2019t. That means you need to get featured in AI Overviews and also focus more on searches where people click.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the data<\/strong>.
