\n Jimmy Kimmel was slammed for his \u201cwhite privilege\u201d after joking during the Emmy Awards that he planned to report British night show host John Oliver to immigration officials.<\/p>\n

Kimmel, who hosted the virtual awards ceremony, was nominated for Outstanding Variety Talk Series against Oliver, who won the category for the fifth consecutive year since 2015.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations again to John Oliver, I will be reporting him to ICE,\u201d Kimmel quipped of the \u201cLast Week Tonight With John Oliver\u201d host.<\/p>\n

But the funnyman\u2019s joke didn\u2019t go over well with some viewers at home who called him out for being \u201ctone-deaf.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy biggest fear as a kid was seeing my parents get deported by ICE,\u201d wrote one Twitter user<\/a>. \u201cThis joke was hurtful and tone deaf, @jimmykimmel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another user questioned why no one involved in producing the awards show pushed back on the joke.<\/p>\n

\u201cthe amount of white privilege it took for jimmy kimmel to get up on stage at a nationally televised event and make a joke about ice and have no one tell him that that isn\u2019t okay, is absolutely astonishing to me,\u201d the user wrote<\/a>, adding, \u201cwhat\u2019s so funny about ice?\u201d<\/p>\n

Others brought up that the \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d host also has a history of racial insensitivity, noting he did blackface in the past, playing NBA star Karl Malone<\/a> and a parody of \u201cThe Oprah Winfrey Show\u201d on Comedy Central\u2019s \u201cThe Man Show.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo Jimmy Kimmel can do Black-face and still end up on the Emmy\u2019s where he made an ICE deportation joke\u2026 and y\u2019all say white privilege isn\u2019t a thing,\u201d one user tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Oliver became a US citizen last December, according to The Hollywood Reporter.<\/a>\n <\/div>\n
