Publisher DreadXP and developer DarkStone Digital have canceled<\/a> Paranormal Activity: Threshold<\/em>, the 2024-announced survival horror game<\/a> from The Mortuary Assistant<\/em> developer Brian Clarke, based on the Paranormal Activity<\/em> film series<\/a>. <\/p>\n

According to Clarke, more development time was required as not to release an unfinished product, and Paranormal Activty<\/em> intellectual property owner Paramount Pictures did not agree to extend development.<\/p>\n

Here is the full message from Clarke:<\/p>\n

Hello indie and horror friends. For a while now, I\u2019ve been hard at work on my next game Paranormal Activity: Threshold<\/em>. I cannot thank everyone enough for the wildly positive reception it received at PAX. It\u2019s been a long time since I released Mortuary Assistant and I was thrilled to see people enjoying more of my work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support means the world to me and it\u2019s why I do what I do.<\/p>\n

This is why it is so difficult to share that development of Paranormal Activity: Threshold<\/em> has come to a close.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s no secret that game development means constant change and challenges especially as a solo indie. It became clear that the game needed more time to ensure it was the best it could possibly be. DreadXP stood by my need for more time and, together, we made a request to Paramount for a time extension.<\/p>\n

Sadly, Paramount did not agree to extend development. This left me with two choices: Rush through development and release a sub-par product I would not be proud of or request we go our separate ways. I chose the latter.<\/p>\n

Proudly, DreadXP stood by me every step of the way and we parted ways with Paramount amicably. It was an honor to even be considered to work on an IP I love so much.<\/p>\n

So this chapter ends for me but I\u2019m not going anywhere. I may need a small vacation, but I am excited and eager to return to my corner of horror that you all have so generously allowed me to occupy.<\/p>\n

On to the next grave to discover what horrors I may unearth.<\/p>\n
