Variety has reported that multimedia<\/a> company <\/span>N LITE<\/b> and Kodansha are partnering to serialize <\/span>MFINDA: The Manga<\/a><\/span><\/i> series<\/a> in the Japanese publisher\u2019s Biblio Sirius Magazine in 2026.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

MFINDA: The Manga<\/span><\/i>, which serves as a prequel to N LITE\u2019s upcoming <\/span>MFINDA<\/span><\/i> \u201cafro-anime\u201d feature film, is written by the company\u2019s founder <\/span>Christiano Terry <\/b>and drawn by art director <\/span>Tom Lintern<\/b>. Japanese storyboard artist <\/span>Koma Warita<\/b> is collaborating with the two on the manga. N LITE and Kodansha are jointly supervising the project, which will have multiple volumes published. The manga will feature the characters Nasambi and Odi as its dual protagonists.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Plans to release <\/span>MFINDA: The Manga <\/span><\/i>was first announced in December 2024<\/a> and was initially set to be published in 2025. It will be available in both Japan and the U.S.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The upcoming <\/span>MFINDA<\/span><\/i> animated film is directed by <\/span>Gisaburo Sugii<\/b> (<\/span>Night on the Galactic Railroad, The Life of Budori Gusuko<\/span><\/i>) and <\/span>Arthell Isom<\/b> (<\/span>The Weeknd<\/b> \u201cSnowchild\u201d music video director and producer). <\/span>Donald H. Hewitt<\/b>, <\/span>Patience Lekien<\/b>, and <\/span>Mika Abe <\/b>(<\/span>Forest of Piano<\/span><\/i> co-series composer) are writing the film\u2019s screenplay, with <\/span>Shigeru Fujita<\/b> (<\/span>Pluto<\/span><\/i>) as character designer. GKIDS <\/span>announced in April 2023<\/span><\/a> that the film would be an N LITE and <\/span>Studio M2<\/b> co-production.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Masao Maruyama<\/b> (Studio M2 and <\/span>MAPP<\/a>A<\/b> founder, <\/span>Madhouse <\/b>co-founder), <\/span>Shin Koyamada<\/b>, and <\/span>Shigeru Igari <\/b>are credited as producers on the animated film. Some of the executive producers on the project include actress <\/span>Viola Davis<\/b>, NBA basketball player <\/span>Joel Embiid<\/b>, actor <\/span>Jaden Smith<\/b>, and GKIDS founder and CEO <\/span>Eric Beckman<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Jaden Smith was also announced as a voice cast member for the film in July 2025, playing the character Kozo. His character is described by N LITE as \u201can ancient spirit warrior who protects humans and spirits of the forest during a time of great conflict in the Kingdom of Kongo.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

N LITE describes the main synopsis of <\/span>MFINDA<\/span><\/i> on its <\/span>website<\/span><\/a> as:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A 13-year-old Congolese girl is transported to the Mfinda, a primordial forest of spirits, gods, and ancestors. There she joins another young girl from a different time and embarks on a journey to find her way back home during a time of conflict between humans and the spirits of nature.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
