\n\tSony Pictures Entertainment announced its full year results in Tokyo on Friday. The film and TV unit of the giant Sony Corp. revealed that operating income for the fiscal year ended March 31 2026 fell 11 percent to $687 million from $763 million in dollar terms, compared to the year ago period. Sales for the FY were essentially flat at $9.92 billion from $9.90 billion.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe drop in operating income owed to SPE shutting down visual effects and virtual production firm Pixomondo. In March, the company revealed that it was shuttering Pixomondo to focus on Sony Pictures Imageworks, headquartered in Vancouver, shifting production to more incentive-friendly Canada.<\/p>\n

\n\tSPE\u2019s FY profit without the Pixomondo impairment charge actually increased 11 percent to $858 million. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn the fiscal fourth quarter, SPE saw income increase over the previous quarter, rising 36 percent to $268 million from $197 million. Revenue for Q4 increased 31 percent to $3.01 billion from $2.30 billion from Q3. <\/p>\n

\n\tSPE comprises the motion pictures division, television productions and media<\/a> networks.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe motion pictures unit (which comprises sales from theatrical, home entertainment and streaming sales) saw FY2025 revenue decline 18 percent to $3.28 billion from $4.01 billion. SPE released 17 movies<\/a> in the period, including Until Dawn, Karate Kid: Legends, Bring Her Back, Materialists, 28 Years Later, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Caught Stealing, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, Soul On Fire, Chainsaw Man \u2013 The Movie: Reze Arc, Nuremberg, Sisu: Road to Revenge, Anaconda, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Clika<\/em> and GOAT<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tTop performers in the period were Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle<\/em> ($354 million), GOAT<\/em> ($183 million), 28 Years Later <\/em>($151 million) and Chainsaw Man \u2013 The Movie: Reze Arc <\/em>($118 million).<\/p>\n

\n\tThree of the top four movie performers were animated \u2014 Demon Slayer<\/em>, GOAT<\/em> and Chainsaw Man<\/em> \u2014 once again reinforcing the strength of the company in that segment and also the rising popularity globally of Japanese anime<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tSPE\u2019s TV unit saw FY2025 revenue reach $3.39 billion, up 12 percent from $3.03 billion from the previous fiscal year. SPE\u2019s television productions from the period include App<\/a>le TV\u2019s For All Mankind<\/em>, Netflix\u2019s The Night Agent<\/em>, Starz\u2019s Outlander<\/em>, Hulu\u2019s Red Eye <\/em>and Peacock\u2019s Days of Our Lives.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n\tFY revenue from media networks (that includes TV channels and digital channels) climbed 13 percent to $3,17 billion from $2.81 billion. The company revealed that it ended the fiscal year to March 31 2026 with 38 television channels and 531.7 million total subscribers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
