Her new song, \u201cRock Music,\u201d leans towards the latter. It\u2019s the first single of her forthcoming \u201crock\u201d album that&#8217;s already been a discourse starter due to a <i><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.co.uk\/article\/charli-xcx-british-vogue-interview\">British Vogue<\/a><\/i> interview quoting the incendiary lyric of the song: \u201cI think the dance floor is dead.\u201d (I think she was simply speaking for herself but when you\u2019ve ascended to Main Girl status observations often sound like proclamations).\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            In the end, that quote seems to have been taken from the (sorry I must) <i>Brat<\/i> book of marketing. On the song, Charli sings the lyric in a pouty bit of Auto-Tune. The rest of the track is built on vocal loops and power chord pivots, and the whole thing has the feeling of a group of friends drunkenly trying on a genre \u2014 and it actually turning out quite good. Based on the accompanying Aidan Zamiri-directed music video, which features Charli and her collaborators bopping around Paris in a black and white cig smoke haze, that might\u2019ve been the actual case of what h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-280262\" class=\"content_block paragraph embed triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Charli xcx - Rock Music (Official Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ox1Eemj8FDo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-280261\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            The song and video feel almost purposefully coy, as Charli sings, \u201cWow I\u2019m really banging my head,\u201d poking fun at rock-music motions. Classic Charli, being the first to laugh. But the next line, \u201cI\u2019m really hurting my neck,\u201d appears to poke at the more adult side effects of her rockstar lifestyle. I hope the rest of the album contains more of the latter sentiments. Charli, and all of us, are older now, and jokes are wearing thin.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            If there\u2019s any pop star I\u2019ve grown up with, it\u2019s Charli. And with that, I\u2019ve come to notice that her album rollouts tend to follow a specific pattern of unveiling. Usually, her albums are launched with its most winking, and dare I say, <i>trollish<\/i> track. She kicked off her <i>Crash<\/i> era with the purposefully paint-by-numbers pop record \u201cGood Ones.\u201d <i>Brat<\/i> debuted with \u201cVon Dutch,\u201d a track heavy on self-mythology: \u201cVon Dutch, cult classic but I still pop.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            My reactions to the cycle have similarly taken on a predictable rhythm. I am first annoyed by her hiding more vulnerable expression beneath layers of It-Girl-group inside jokes and Auto-Tune. And then the album comes and usually reveals new insights into her pathos. That\u2019s why <i>Brat<\/i> ultimately eclipsed its mass-marketing bonanza to become a true cultural monsoon; its velocity was intensified by confessional tracks like \u201cI think about it all the time.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            I\u2019m hoping a similar process will take place with \u201cRock Music\u201d and the subsequent record; I expect to be moved and excited. In the short term, though, I\u2019m finding this process of launching with irony a tad predictable, and tired.
