Mangual writes at The Wall Street Journal. \u201cThe question is what to do about it.\u201d When it comes to police reforms, \u201cthe data caution against expecting too much\u201d and \u201cwarn that more-radical ones could have bad consequences.\u201d While ideas \u201crun the gamut,\u201d a promising one is to \u201climit the power of police unions, whose contracts make it difficult to fire bad officers.\u201d George Floyd\u2019s death is \u201csenseless\u201d and a crime that cries for justice, no question, but \u201cthe road to real reform begins not with a rush forward but with a step back to consider the complicated realities that passions may be obscuring.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Foreign_desk_A_Pandemic_of_Repression\"><\/span><strong>Foreign desk: A Pandemic of Repression<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Not surprisingly, \u201csome of the world\u2019s most ruthless autocrats\u201d have \u201cused the COVID-19 pandemic to justify <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> repression\u201d \u2014 but now, City Journal\u2019s Judith Miller laments, leaders of \u201cnations that pride themselves on their commitment to democracy and the rule of law\u201d are doing the same thing. India, for example, provided a \u201cvibrant, freewheeling\u201d media environment until the pandemic gave Prime Minister Narendra Modi an excuse to \u201cdeny reporters access to information, restrict their physical movement and stifle criticism of the government\u2019s management of the virus.\u201d Similarly, Brazil and South Africa \u201cenjoyed a relatively free press until the virus arrived.\u201d Alas: American media have \u201cmuted\u201d their criticisms of such measures \u2014 despite all the \u201charassment of, or attacks on, journalists\u201d during the George Floyd protests.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Media_watch_Journalisms_%E2%80%98Woke_Revolution\"><\/span><strong>Media watch: Journalism\u2019s \u2018Woke Revolution\u2019<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The essence of a revolution, argues The Week\u2019s Damon Linker, is a \u201cchange in regime \u2014 the shift in the orienting principles or ideals of the community or organization.\u201d American journalism is facing such \u201ca revolutionary moment\u201d now. New York Times staffers, for example, forced editors to capitulate to censoring any \u201cperceived deviations from the progressive orthodoxy.\u201d These new revolutionaries care about progressive \u201ctruth\u201d rather than \u201cobjectivity,\u201d judge their \u201crighteousness\u201d on \u201cthe volume of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lause from likeminded followers on Twitter\u201d and are willing to \u201cexcuse words and deeds that in other contexts would be considered unacceptable\u201d if they promote progressivism. It all adds up to a \u201cdisheartening\u201d rebellion, a \u201cvictory for narrowness and dogmatism\u201d \u2014 and \u201ca defeat for the American mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"From_the_right_The_Protests_Arent_About_George_Floyd\"><\/span><strong>From the right: The Protests Aren\u2019t About George Floyd<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cLiberals aren\u2019t even pretending anymore that the protests over George Floyd\u2019s death are about police brutality experienced by black Americans,\u201d observes The Washington Examiner\u2019s Eddie Scarry. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says they\u2019re more about \u201chealth care as a human right\u201d and \u201cstanding up to for-profit real-estate developers.\u201d New York Times columnist Charles Blow says we need a new system of \u201cwealth redistribution\u201d and a new civil-rights act.
