That\u2019s a wild comparison for a r<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er known for the blown-out chaos of his live shows (I was at his Camp Flog Gnaw 2024 set and it was absolutely insane) but the Atlanta rapper is insistent. He sees his mosh pits not as a violent jerking of bodies, but as a place of worship. He\u2019s spotted fans holding iPads in the crowd like Bibles and assures me his pits are the safest in music. \u201cNo one ever gets hurt, ever,\u201d he preaches in a calm and steady tone. The 31-year-old grew up in Atlanta\u2019s Zone 4, a pocket of the city with its own exit and &#8220;swag,&#8221; separate from the greater A-town area. His dad played him a lot of Tupac growing up, specifically <i>All Eyez on Me<\/i>, a record he remembers as \u201cdark and eerie\u201d for a kid. On the flip side, Mason was exposed to gospel music from his grandmothers forcing him to go to church not once, but three times a week.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            This balance of lightness and darkness in Mason\u2019s life is heard across <i>BULLDAWG<\/i>. He\u2019s wearing the same chrome-winged dog necklace I saw him wearing back in 2024, which shows his appreciation for having constants in his life. A childhood of moving back and forth is what brought him to music: \u201cI would always have a CD player [that] was always there, no matter where I went.\u201d \n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-280336\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Ahead, Mason talks about questioning his place in music, overcoming pain, and <i>BULLDAWG<\/i> being the most \u201chim\u201d project he\u2019s made to date.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-280337\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            <b>The FADER: Can you tell me about growing up in Atlanta?<\/b>\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            <b>KENNY MASON:<\/b> Atlanta is broken up into six zones, and the zone I\u2019m from is called Zone 4. The exit is kind of its own exit. So it\u2019s like a part of Atlanta, but it\u2019s its own thing. It\u2019s got its own swag. And still to this day, it\u2019s got its own swag.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            <b>What\u2019s that swag like?<\/b>\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Man, it would be like discount malls or s<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> malls where people have all types of crazy designer stuff that they ain\u2019t necessarily supposed to have. You\u2019ll see people workin\u2019 regular jobs \u2014 somebody at the car wash, the barbershop \u2014 lookin\u2019 exactly like a rapper. He listened to all types of music. He played Doggystyle, Snoop Dogg and <i>All Eyez on Me<\/i> by Tupac. When he played Tupac, his voice to me as a kid used to be so powerful that I used to be scared of him. Those old \u201890s rap albums sound very aggressive, almost eerie. I grew up to love it, but that definitely gave me my swag as far as the dark stuff.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            <b>When did you realize you wanted to make your own songs?<\/b>\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Probably when I was around 11 or 12. My grandmother passed and we had to move out of her house and bounce around with family a little bit. No matter where I went, I kept my songs on a CD player or an iPod. I realized through that personalization that I could do it, even if it was just to myself. By high school, my friends hyped me up to start showin\u2019 them. My friend Shane Moran, who was in Title Fight, is all over the album and he told me he taught himself. That\u2019s the best way. I looked at my favorite guitar-based artists and realized they just have their own unique style. I didn&#8217;t want formal training. I just want my own style and to get great at it.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            <b>You also worked with feardorian on \u201cBOUNCER.\u201d How did that connection happen?<\/b>\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            Dorian is amazing. He\u2019s brilliant and his musical knowledge in the crevices of the internet \u2014 where he goes and finds stuff \u2014 is crazy. Music is just pouring out of him. He\u2019s a great spirit to be around. He flipped this crazy sample from an obscure band. It\u2019s wild.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            <b>You have a line on the record: &#8220;Overcoming pain is different than surviving.&#8221; What\u2019s the distinction for you?<\/b>\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            To survive something is just the bare minimum. It means you\u2019re still alive, but the thing changed you forever. I don\u2019t want anything to have that power over me. I want to overcome it.
