Consistent training puts you among the small percentage who actually follow through.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-8-social-approval\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"8_Social_approval\"><\/span>8. Social approval<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This is one of the easiest levers to use. It can be as simple as highlighting customer volume, units sold, customer quotes, reviews, or Trustpilot widgets on your site.<\/p>\n<p>You don\u2019t have to tell people your brand has social approval. You need to show it.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the goal is to highlight your brand\u2019s credibility to customers and Google, not necessarily to convince people that your product gives them social approval.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-bonus-layer-learned-desires\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_bonus_layer_Learned_desires\"><\/span>A bonus layer: Learned desires<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Beyond the eight core desires, there are learned desires that can complement the deeper psychological levers. These include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Convenience (\u201cthis takes 10 minutes, not an hour\u201d).<\/li>\n<li>Curiosity (\u201chere\u2019s what most [audience] gets wrong about this\u201d).<\/li>\n<li>Financial gain (\u201chere\u2019s what this is actually costing you right now\u201d).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"how-this-framework-improved-our-results\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_this_framework_improved_our_results\"><\/span>How this framework improved our results<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>My team has applied this framework to blog content over the past year. We\u2019re not doing anything dramatic. We\u2019re being more deliberate about which levers we use, for which audience, and where they appear in the article.<\/p>\n<p>While other factors certainly contributed, psychology-based content optimization became a major focus for my junior team. But this human layer will become increasingly important for conversion as views and clicks continue declining.<\/p>\n<p>The traffic you do get will likely be more qualified. The question becomes how to increase the likelihood that people take action once they arrive.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three ways to start optimizing your content for conversion.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-understand-the-person-behind-the-search\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Understand_the_person_behind_the_search\"><\/span>Understand the person behind the search<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Knowing your audience\u2019s demographics isn\u2019t enough. You need to understand:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Their environment.<\/li>\n<li>What they do and don\u2019t have access to.<\/li>\n<li>What influences their decisions beyond your product category.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A small business owner in a large city like New York has different foundational needs than one in a market like West Virginia, where starting a business is less common.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-map-levers-and-intended-actions-to-the-journey-nbsp\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Map_levers_and_intended_actions_to_the_journey\"><\/span>Map levers and intended actions to the journey\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Think of this as user journey mapping 2.0. For each page, persona, and journey stage, identify which levers make the most sense and what action you want someone to take. Not every page is designed to sell.<\/p>\n<p>Ask yourself:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What is this person afraid of at this stage?<\/li>\n<li>What do they want to feel after reading this?<\/li>\n<li>What action do they need to take?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-start-optimizing\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Start_optimizing\"><\/span>Start optimizing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This should become an ongoing part of your content strategy, so start where you can, even if it\u2019s just one page.<\/p>\n<p>Apply one or two levers throughout the page and measure what happens. When something works, reverse-engineer the combination:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Which desire was involved?<\/li>\n<li>Which persona?<\/li>\n<li>Which stage of the journey?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then expand those insights across related content once you\u2019ve identified a combination that works.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-to-make-these-levers-feel-natural\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_make_these_levers_feel_natural\"><\/span>How to make these levers feel natural<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A lot of this is the art side of marketing, which means there\u2019s room for interpretation and experimentation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Use data: <\/strong>You don\u2019t need proprietary research. The Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, industry reports, and competitor review platforms are full of data that can make abstract concepts feel tangible. The goal is to use a few well-placed statistics to make a point land.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Name your audience: <\/strong>Users are adding more context to long-tail searches, so reflect those audiences in your content. If you want to reach small business owners, say \u201csmall business owners\u201d in your content. If you\u2019re speaking to CMOs, say that. You can address multiple audiences throughout a piece. Just make sure the storytelling still feels cohesive.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t overdo it: <\/strong>Just like too much salt can ruin a meal, overly hyped content can feel inauthentic and turn people away. Keep it simple.
