Mackenzie Shirilla<\/strong>\u2018s dad is speaking out on her crimes and sentencing.<\/p>\n

In Wednesday\u2019s episode of the True Crime This Week<\/em> podcast, Steven Shirilla<\/strong> got honest about his daughter\u2019s jail time. As for what happ<\/a>ened that night of The Crash<\/em> where Dominic Russo<\/strong> and Davion Flanagan<\/strong> were killed, he said he just doesn\u2019t \u201cget it\u201d:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe didn\u2019t drive directly into that building \u2026 She hit that sign first and veered into that building. What would happen if she kept going straight, you know? I don\u2019t know. They\u2019d all be dead? Who knows.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The biggest point he made, however, is that he believes his daughter didn\u2019t do it on purpose. And he maintains her innocence, just like she does:<\/p>\n

\u201cI know when my daughter lies, it\u2019s my daughter. There\u2019s a twinkle in her eye. There\u2019s something I can tell when she\u2019s not being honest with me. She doesn\u2019t look at me, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Steven continued on, saying what he believes Mackenzie should have been charged with, instead of the double homicide she was convicted of:<\/p>\n

\u201cMy daughter should have been charged with vehicular homicide. Two counts in juvie court and it should have never left. The juvenile judge took out the aggravated murder thing for the same reason I\u2019m saying \u2026 There\u2019s no intent, there\u2019s no prior calculation. There\u2019s no purpose. It\u2019s just not there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

His reasoning? He says he watched his daughter for \u201cthree months\u201d and saw her remorse with his own two eyes:<\/p>\n

\u201c[I spent three months] watching her watch every video, every song, every picture about [Dom]. There was a shrine to him in that room. A shrine. She cried herself to sleep every night \u2026 She has remorse. She was upset. If you would have heard her when she found out Dom died, if you would have heard the sound that came out of her, it would have crushed you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Another point Steven made is that he asked her over and over again if she did it on purpose, and she kept saying \u201cNo.\u201d He added:<\/p>\n

\u201cIf my daughter was that mad and wanted to kill [Dom] that way, Davion would have never been in the car, right? \u2026 If she was going to do that to Dom, there were guns all over that kid\u2019s house.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Wrapping up his thoughts, he said if Mackenzie would have been charged in the way he believes was fair, she would \u201cbe out by now.\u201d You can listen to what he had to say at the 42:24 mark (below):<\/p>\n
