\n\tNiall Horan opened up about the death of his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne in a new interview with The Times U.K.<\/a><\/em>, noting that he spent time with Payne in Argentina a few weeks before he died.<\/p>\n

\n\tPayne died on Oct. 16, 2024, after falling from the third floor of a hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m glad of that, it means my last memory of him was happ<\/a>y,\u201d Horan said in the interview. \u201cIt still feels surreal. On day one I was, like, \u2018Nah, it didn\u2019t happen.\u2019 Our friendship was a bond that was there forever even if we hadn\u2019t seen each other for a while and it\u2019s wild that one day, like the flick of a switch, he\u2019s gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHoran explained that although Payne\u2019s death evokes \u201csadness,\u201d he tries to reminisce on the many great memories they made together. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen I think of Liam\u2019s passing, there is sadness, but it also makes me laugh and smirk because of the memories we had,\u201d Horan said. \u201cI\u2019ll go to places and think of something stupid in a hotel or something random that makes me laugh. We always had good fun in Australia because we were able to get out and go to the beach. Liam wasn\u2019t too bad at surfing. I can barely swim.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe artist is gearing up for the release of his fourth studio album Dinner Party<\/em>, which includes a track dedicated in Payne\u2019s honor. <\/p>\n

\n\tEntitled \u201cEnd of an Era,\u201d Horan was asked what he thought the \u201cStrip<\/a> That Down\u201d singer would think of the song. \u201cI think it\u2019s his type of song, he liked Coldplay, he loved songs like \u2018You & I\u2019 by One Direction, songs that went somewhere,\u201d he responded. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe British boy band One Direction was assembled on\u00a0The X Factor<\/em>\u00a0in 2010. Consisting of Payne, Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, they quickly shot to international stardom, and remained so through March 2015, when Malik announced he was exiting the group. They remained as a foursome through the beginning of 2016.<\/p>\n

\n\tPayne\u2019s fellow former One Direction band member Styles recently opened up about losing Payne, telling Zane Lowe that after his death, he vowed to live life to the fullest to honor him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
