\n Among those who don\u2019t take kindly to the Department of Justice labeling New York City an \u201canarchist jurisdiction\u201d are, well \u2026 anarchists.<\/p>\n

Proud members of the lawlessness-and-disorder set have pushed back against the designation \u2014 first reported by The Post \u2014 which could see federal funding siphoned from the city unless it clamps down.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt reinforces the trope, and that\u2019s kind of f\u2013ked,\u201d groused Thom Kennon, a self-identified anarchist and adjunct marketing professor at NYU, to Gothamist<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kennon particularly bristled at the Trump administration\u2019s imprecise phrasing.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnarchists don\u2019t do \u2018jurisdictions,’\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cWe do what\u2019s called prefigurative politics, building new more equitable worlds now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daryle Lamont Jenkins, an anarchist and head of the Antifa \u2014 or \u201canti-fascist\u201d \u2014 One People\u2019s Project, told Gothamist that the rhetoric was \u201cplaying to a base that wants an excuse to go after people they already hated \u2014 whether they\u2019re black or wearing black.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Still, Jenkins got a kick out of the front page of Monday\u2019s Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw the\u00a0New York Post cover where they had the Big App<\/a>le with an anarchist \u2018A\u2019 and I said, \u2018Remind me to use this next time we put on a punk show,’\u201d he cracked.<\/p>\n

Two people less than enthused about the designation \u2014 which was also slapped on Portland, Ore. and Seattle \u2014 are Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who fumed over the move.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kennon, however, found a potential silver lining, telling Gothamist, \u201cI immedia<\/a>tely signaled one of my comrades and said, \u2018Look, what a chance this could be to educate people about what we\u2019re really like.’\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
