2025\u2019s The Last Blossom<\/em>, the anime<\/a> movie that reunites Odd Taxi<\/em>\u2018s director (Baku Kinoshita<\/strong>) and writer (Kazuya Konomoto<\/strong>), will be screened in North America on August 30 and 31 this year. GKIDS is handling the release.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the synopsis from GKIDS:<\/span><\/p>\n

Former yakuza Akutsu is serving life in prison after a middling career in the underworld. On the night he lays dying in his cell, he reminisces with his only companion, a smart-mouthed flower growing out of a can, about the choices that brought him here, the woman he loved, and a child he would give everything to protect. Is redemption out of reach?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Last Blossom\u00a0<\/em>(Housenka<\/em>) was released in Japan on October 10, 2025. <\/span>Konomoto is credited as the creator, while\u00a0Kinoshita handled the character designs. The movie\u2019s animation production studio is CLAP<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The cast includes\u00a0Junki Tozuka<\/strong> as past Akutsu,\u00a0Kaoru Kobayashi\u00a0<\/strong>as present-day Akutsu,\u00a0Hikari Mitsushima<\/strong> as past Nana,\u00a0Yoshiko Miyazaki<\/strong> as present-day Nana, and Pierre Taki\u00a0<\/strong>as a housenka<\/em> flower.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Last Blossom <\/em>was part of Annecy 2024\u2019s Work-in-Progress lineup and Annecy 2025\u2019s Feature Film Competition.<\/span><\/p>\n
