\n Maybe Gov. Andrew Cuomo just doesn\u2019t want New Yorkers to get President Trump\u2019s jobless benefits. The state\u2019s lame excuses for its failure to ensure those payments actually reach people who file claims are just the latest evidence.<\/p>\n

Democrats in Congress are blocking efforts to renew the $600-a-week federal unemployment bonus that expired on July 31, holding it hostage for other outlays they say are vital.<\/p>\n

When Trump bypassed Congress to OK a $300-per-week bonus, Cuomo called it \u201claughable\u201d and \u201cimpossible\u201d \u2014 and didn\u2019t even bother app<\/a>lying for it on behalf of the state\u2019s jobless.<\/p>\n

His initial gripe was that the state needed to come up with $100 from its own pocket \u2014 but he didn\u2019t jump in when Trump waived that requirement, as other governors did.<\/p>\n

Indeed, it took a Post report by Bernadette Hogan and Bruce Golding on Aug. 21 \u2014 two weeks after Trump\u2019s order \u2014 to shame Albany into even seeking the federal cash. By then, jobless workers elsewhere were already spending theirs.<\/p>\n

Yet Team Cuomo didn\u2019t plan on distributing funds for another four weeks, prompting White House charges of foot-dragging. And when Cuomo announced Friday that jobless New Yorkers had at last gotten three weeks of back payments, it turned out that many actually hadn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

KeyBank, which is processing payments, admitted a \u201cthree-hour delay\u201d and vowed to complete the transfers that day, but by Monday, workers still hadn\u2019t gotten paid.<\/p>\n

It was again the Cuomo team\u2019s fault, the bank said: The glitch was \u201cresolved,\u201d and unpaid claimants \u201care experiencing a separate issue\u201d and should contact the state.<\/p>\n

Perhaps it\u2019s just massive incompetence, but it sure begins to look like Cuomo\u2019s minions just refuse to put a priority on help for jobless New Yorkers simply because the benefit carries Trump\u2019s fingerprints.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
