\n Below-knee amputee Amy Palmiero-Winters \u2014 who won a 2010 ESPY Award declaring her the world\u2019s top female athlete with a disability \u2014 is suing her gym after they refused to return equipment she bought to train at the facility, according to a new lawsuit.<\/p>\n

Palmiero-Winters, 48, trained at CrossFit CAMO on Long Island \u2014 and purchased $2,100 in equipment that was delivered directly to the facility.<\/p>\n

\nThe gym didn\u2019t have a lot of equipment, and she needed certain weights and other equipment to maintain her level of fitness for competitions, the suit says.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

But due to the pandemic-induced closure of all fitness centers, Palmiero-Winters was forced to continue her workouts at home.<\/p>\n

The professional athlete asked the gym\u2019s owner, Chad Gross, to let her pick up her equipment, but he allegedly refused, the Nassau Supreme Court filing states.<\/p>\n

\u201cMs. Palmiero-Winters\u2019 continued exercise regimen is critical to her success as a professional athlete, mentor and role model to other amputees as well as her own physical and emotional well-being,\u201d wrote her attorney Norm Steiner in the suit.<\/p>\n

Palmiero-Winters, who holds a dozen world records, famously completed one of the most grueling races in the world \u2014 140 miles over six days in the Sahara \u2014 and she did it with a prosthetic leg, The New York Times reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The suit seeks monetary damages in excess of $25,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile COVID has had a devastating impact on gym owners, it should never have chilled their humanity,\u201d said Steiner.<\/p>\n

Gross didn\u2019t immedia<\/a>tely return a request for comment.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
