\n\tNetflix used its Annecy International Animation Film Festival platform on Wednesday to unveil a slate of high-profile projects, led by a first look at Brad Bird\u2019s Ray Gunn<\/em> and new details on its upcoming Ghostbusters<\/em> series<\/a>. The streamer also confirmed December release dates for Ray Gunn<\/em> and its Cannes animation acquisition In Waves<\/em>, positioning both as potential Oscar contenders.<\/p>\n

\n\tRay Gunn<\/em>, Bird\u2019s long-gestating noir sci-fi film, will debut globally on Netflix on December 18. The film, set in an alternate 1939 Metropia, follows private eye Raymond Gunn as he investigates a case involving aliens, murder, and a multimedia<\/a> star named Venus Nova. Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Waits lead the voice cast, with Skydance Animation producing. Netflix revealed new images and Ray Gunn<\/em> concept art at its presentation. <\/p>\n

\n\tNetflix also revealed a first look of Ghostbusters: Night Shift<\/em>, a new animated TV series set in 1994, on the Ghostbusters<\/em> timeline between Ivan Reitman\u2019s original films from the 1980s and the 2020s sequels, Ghostbusters: Afterlife<\/em> (2021), and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire<\/em> (2024), directed by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan. Reitman, Kenan and Dan Aykroyd are executive producing the new series. Netflix unveiled concept art for the series, which promises a more gritty, retro aesthetic and a mix of franchise-specific humor and supernatural scares. Ghostbusters: Night Shift<\/em> is set to deliver in 2027. <\/p>\n

Netflix is positioning it alongside Ray Gunn<\/em> as a key prestige play.<\/p>\n

WIT Studio is producing the series, which is promising a \u201cfresh take\u201d on the long-running franchise, separate from both Toei\u00a0Animation\u2019s original anime and Netflix\u2019s one\u00a0One Piece\u00a0<\/em>live-action series.<\/p>\n

\n\tNetflix teased Ricky Gervais\u2019 upcoming adult animation comedy series Alley Cats<\/em> with a first-look image. The show, which premieres August 7, follows a group of feral British cats navigating life\u2019s absurdities. <\/p>\n
