{"id":735363,"date":"2026-06-25T05:00:51","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T02:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/europe-is-pushing-back-on-washingtons-chip-war\/"},"modified":"2026-06-25T05:00:51","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T02:00:51","slug":"europe-is-pushing-back-on-washingtons-chip-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/europe-is-pushing-back-on-washingtons-chip-war\/","title":{"rendered":"Europe is pushing back on Washington&#8217;s chip war"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dutch Trade Minister Sjoerd Sjoerdsma visited Washington this week to meet with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and members of Congress to oppose the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-bill\/8170\">MATCH Act<\/a>, a bill that would bar Chinese chipmakers from accessing Western semiconductor equipment, and one that would hit ASML especially hard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ASML, based in the Netherlands, is Europe\u2019s most valuable company and the only maker in the world of the sophisticated lithography machines that are used to make cutting-edge AI chips.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s exceptional that I\u2019m coming here to broadly outline our concerns to Congress,\u201d Sjoerdsma <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-06-24\/netherlands-lobbies-us-to-drop-chip-curbs-targeting-asml-sales\">told Bloomberg<\/a> after the meetings. \u201cThe stakes for the Netherlands may be very high.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">China accounts for 19% of ASML\u2019s net system sales. The MATCH Act would go further than existing controls, extending curbs to ASML\u2019s deep ultraviolet immersion machines on top of the long-standing ban on its most advanced extreme ultraviolet, or EUV, tools reaching China.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet told TechCrunch in May, what China can currently buy are older-generation deep ultraviolet tools \u2014 gear first shipped about a decade ago \u2014 the same machines the MATCH Act would now relegate off limits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bill, introduced in April, hasn\u2019t yet faced a full House or Senate vote; Bloomberg notes it would likely need to be folded into a larger package to pass.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
