\n\tPrime Video is making a return to Barry\u2019s Bay. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe streamer announced on Saturday that its series<\/a> Every Year After<\/em> has been renewed for a second season. Season two will expand the Barry\u2019s Bay universe and follow Fortune\u2019s novel,\u00a0One Golden Summer<\/em>, while continuing to explore the fan favorite stories and characters from the first season.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmy B. Harris will continue to serve as showrunner with Fortune continuing to serve as an executive producer. Lindsey Liberatore, Amy Rardin, John Stephens and Grace Gilroy will executive produce.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe response to Every Year After<\/em> has been truly extraordinary, underscoring the universal app<\/a>eal of Carley Fortune\u2019s storytelling and the deep connection audiences have formed with the world of Barry\u2019s Bay,\u201d Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019re incredibly grateful to Carley, Amy B. Harris, our exceptional cast and creative team, and the passionate fans who have embraced this series around the globe. We\u2019re excited to return to Barry\u2019s Bay and bring audiences another deeply emotional and unforgettable chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSadie Soverall, Matt Cornett, Michael Bradway, Aurora Perrineau, Abigail Cowen and Joseph Chiu star.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe series renewal was first teased during an executive panel on Friday ahead of Prime Video\u2019s Obsessed Fest with Friedlander. As quoted by Deadline<\/em>, Friedlander said of another season, \u201cI hope to have news<\/a> on that soon.\u201d He also acknowledged that \u201cone success begets another,\u201d when reflecting on how the success of their Off Campus<\/em>\u00a0series adaptation impacted\u00a0Every Year After<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tSeason one of Every Year After <\/em>followed Fortune\u2019s New York Times<\/em>\u00a0bestselling story about how the relationship between best friends turned lovers Persephone \u201cPercy\u201d Fraser (Soverall) and Sam Florek (Cornett) once fell apart. A love story deconstructed and reconstructed across alternating timelines, their past becomes present when Percy returns to Barry\u2019s Bay, the lakeside town where she spent her summers as a teen, and first fell in love with Sam, to attend the funeral of the Florek brothers\u2019 mother. After reuniting for the first time in years, the two are forced to learn how to navigate each other again and confront a lingering secret betrayal.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think this season was about will they-won\u2019t they, and next season will be about\u00a0how<\/em>\u00a0will they,\u201d showrunner Harris told The Hollywood Reporter <\/em>about continuing Percy and Sam\u2019s story. \u201cAlthough I hope the audience feels like they\u2019re coming to a happy ending at the beginning of season one, to me, it\u2019s just the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThough liberties can be taken for the second season, the season finale heavily teased that the story\u2019s continuation would explore Fortune\u2019s novel, One Golden Summer<\/em>, centered on Sam\u2019s older brother Charlie. During pre-production of the show, Bradway, who portrayed Charlie in the series, told THR<\/em> that he, Cornett and Soverall joined Harris in her office where she offered a blueprint\u00a0for her adaptation while expressing a desire to continue the story through\u00a0One Golden Summer<\/em>, should the show get a second season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cObviously Charlie hasn\u2019t found his person yet, but we all know who that is,\u201d he told THR<\/em> when addressing his character\u2019s grim cliffhanger ending. <\/p>\n

\n\tA renewal of the project is no surprise, given the fanfare surrounding the source material and the author. Fortune\u2019s\u00a0books\u00a0have sold 4.7 million copies, with\u00a0Every Summer After<\/em>\u00a0spending 16 weeks on the\u00a0New York Times<\/em>\u00a0Best Sellers list, selling over 1 million copies to date, and finding a second life on BookTok. One Golden Summer<\/em>\u00a0spent 20 weeks on the New York Times<\/em> Best Sellers list and has sold nearly 1 million copies to date.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to Every Year After<\/em>, Fortune\u2019s novels This Summer Will Be Different <\/em>and Meet Me at the Lake <\/em>are also set to be adapted by Netflix. <\/p>\n
