So the company \u201cbrought back technical specialists,\u201d and those specialists \u201chunt for failure points before a part ever reaches the plant floor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Charles Poon, Ford\u2019s vice president of vehicle hardware engineering, added, \u201cMistakenly we thought that by just introducing artificial intelligence and ingesting the design requirements that we had, that that would produce a high-quality product.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be clear, this doesn\u2019t mean Ford is abandoning its AI plans entirely. Instead, it\u2019s using the rehired employees \u2014 referred to as \u201cgray beard\u201d engineers \u2014 to train younger staff and reprogram AI tools.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This rehiring seems to be paying off, with Ford anticipating that it will lead to $1 billion in reduced costs this year.
