\n The Louisville police officers involved in Breonna Taylor\u2019s shooting death \u201cknocked and announced\u201d themselves \u2014 and did not execute a \u201cno-knock warrant\u201d as previously believed, Kentucky\u2019s attorney general<\/a> said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

At a press conference, AG Daniel Cameron said a neighbor corroborated cops\u2019 claims that they knocked on Taylor\u2019s apartment door and announced themselves as police in the early morning hours of March 13.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvidence showed officers knocked and announced their presence at the apartment,\u201d Cameron said, following the announcement from a grand jury to indict one of the officers, Brett Hankison, on three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree for firing his weapon into another apartment.<\/p>\n

Cameron also defended two other officers involved \u2014 Detective Myles Cosgrove and Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly \u2014 saying they were first shot at by Taylor\u2019s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, before returning fire.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur investigation found that Mattingly and Cosgrove were justified in their use of force after having been fired on by Kenneth Walker,\u201d Cameron said.<\/p>\n

Mattingly and Cosgrove were not indicted.<\/p>\n

Taylor was sleeping when police burst into her first-floor apartment. She was struck by six bullets \u2014 including one that was fatal \u2014 with a contemporaneous investigation by the FBI finding that Cosgrove is the one who fired the deadly shot, Cameron said.<\/p>\n

Taylor\u2019s death certificate indicates that she was struck five times, with Cameron clarifying that a bullet was lodged in her foot.<\/p>\n

The timeline leading up to the botched raid has been hotly debated \u2014 with Walker claiming the officers never announced themselves. He said he only fired in self-defense.<\/p>\n

Cameron said the grand jury began hearing evidence in the case on Monday and wrapp<\/a>ed up the case around noon Wednesday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
