revised its U.S. chart rankings, cutting 500,000 fraudulent streams for \u201cEarrings\u201d by Malcolm Todd, knocking its chart position from #1 to #4. The move came in response to public outcry over unusual betting activity on Kalshi, one of the major prediction markets.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            The skewed streaming activity was initially publicized by Caleb Davies, a frequent bettor and music aficionado, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/2e10851c-9f47-410d-b46e-2a617118b05a\">first reported by <i>Financial Times<\/i> last week<\/a>. The botted streaming activity <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears to be wholly unconnected to Malcolm Todd or his label; Todd\u2019s song was likely chosen by the perpetrator for a combination of factors that made it seem easier to manipulate and sufficiently profitable.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-282158\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            The situation highlights how prediction markets are creeping into every facet of our lives \u2013 and influencing the charts in the process. Per <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/business\/technology\/article\/polymarket-kalshi-prediction-market-regulator-tvnb8dhtj\">a recent report by <i>The Times<\/i><\/a>, the total amount wagered on Polymarket and Kalshi this June hit $25 billion, compared to less than $5 billion in June 2025. This spring, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cSnDmah5Hg0\">Kalshi cofounder Luana Lopes Lara said that $500 million had been wagered on the platform\u2019s music-related bets<\/a> over a span of roughly three and a half months.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            While Spotify ultimately revised the numbers on their platform, and assured <i>WIRED<\/i> that <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/spotify-streaming-manipulation-prediction-markets-polymarket-kalshi\/\">no royalty payouts were affected by the falsified streams<\/a>, Kalshi\u2019s prediction markets had already resolved to pay \u201cwinners\u201d and \u201closers.\u201d Given the public scrutiny, it seems likely the platform will reimburse bettors who erroneously lost money. A representative told <i>WIRED<\/i> that the platform was in talks with Spotify about the specific case, and Spotify has pushed both Kalshi and its primary competitor Polymarket to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-07-02\/spotify-challenges-prediction-markets-after-song-chart-rigging\">remove Spotify\u2019s branding from their products<\/a> in the wake of the incident.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-282160\" class=\"content_block paragraph embed triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Malcolm Todd - Earrings (Official Visualizer)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a4tdS3IB294?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-282159\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Documented cases of outright fraud have remained few and far between to date, but prediction markets for music streaming in particular seem uniquely vulnerable to future fraud given the comparatively low cost and high accessibility of botting and streamfarms. With some capital and know-how, you could hypothetically bot streams from anywhere with a strong enough internet connection and win big.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            And even if streaming providers and prediction markets alike find ways to firmly root out fraudulent streaming activity as it relates to the betting markets, everyday music fans will still be trading against industry players with an inside track on upcoming GRAMMY nominations or raw streaming data, among others. In fact, depending on who you ask, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/defirate.com\/news\/polymarket-celebrates-spotify-results\/\">insider trading is actually a <i>feature<\/i> of prediction markets<\/a>, a way for money at stake to signal which outcome is more likely (though I can\u2019t imagine contributing to Kalshi\u2019s overall prediction rate feels particularly good for anyone on the losing side of their own specific wager).\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            For Kalshi\u2019s part, they\u2019ve said their restrictions on insider trading go beyond the scope of what is legally required; by comparison, Polymarket is <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bhfs.com\/insight\/doj-applies-insider-trading-theories-to-novel-prediction-market-contract-case\/\">currently under fire from the DOJ<\/a> for being too permissive, suggesting that while <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/trump-administration-backs-kalshi-and-polymarket-as-states-move-to-ban-prediction-markets\">the Trump administration has been broadly friendly to prediction markets<\/a>, it\u2019s not a total free for all. But as trading volume on these platforms continues to grow, we\u2019ll be seeing more and more people who think they\u2019re smart enough to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> the system.
