HBO Max announced the October premiere date of\u00a0A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with a photo of star\u00a0Martin Sheen<\/strong> back behind the desk.<\/p>\n

HBO Max announced that the highly anticipated\u00a0West Wing<\/em> reunion special, which will bring original cast members\u00a0Rob Lowe, Dul\u00e9 Hill, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff, Bradley Whitford\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Martin Sheen for the first time in 17 years, will premiere on the platform on October 15, 2020<\/strong>. Sorkin and executive producer\/director\u00a0Thomas Schlamme<\/strong>\u00a0are returning for the special theatrical stage presentation of the \u201cHartsfield\u2019s Landing\u201d episode from the show\u2019s third season.
\nThe announcement comes on quite a patriotic day: today is National Voter Registration Day, for which many celebrities are holding events and doing their patriotic duty to support voter registration, many in partnership with Michelle Obama\u2019s When We All Vote\u00a0nonprofit, whose mission is to \u201cincrease participation in every election.\u201d Unsurprisingly, the\u00a0West Wing<\/em>\u00a0reunion special is also partnered with When We All Vote, with\u00a0Michelle Obama,\u00a0President Bill Clinton, and\u00a0Lin-Manuel Miranda set to make app<\/a>earances during\u00a0act breaks. They\u2019ll also be joined by\u00a0Fans will also be treated to the musical talents of Emmy-winning composer\u00a0W.G. Snuffy Walden, who will play the iconic score for\u00a0The West Wing<\/em>\u00a0theme song, while folk rock band,\u00a0The Avett Brothers, will close out the special. In honor of the special,\u00a0WarnerMedia<\/a>\u00a0will also make a donation to When We All Vote.<\/p>\n

A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote<\/em>\u00a0is produced by\u00a0Casey Patterson Entertainment\u00a0in association with\u00a0Warner Horizon Unscripted Television.\u00a0Aaron Sorkin,\u00a0Thomas Schlamme\u00a0and\u00a0Casey Patterson\u00a0are the executive producers.\u00a0Rob Paine\u00a0is co-executive producer and Schlamme will serve as director.<\/p>\n

The West Wing<\/em> was a monumental piece of TV, earning universal praise and winning 27 Emmys over its seven seasons. The one unfortunate side effect of Sorkin\u2019s optimistic depiction<\/a> of a liberal, progressive White House is that it convinced its viewers that its rosy vision of centrism could be achieved in today\u2019s increasingly divisive political climate. But perhaps seeing the Barlet administration back in action once again 17 years later could bring back that much-needed optimism.<\/p>\n
