\n A New York University student demanded that her professor be fired for allegedly telling students that wearing face masks doesn\u2019t prevent the spread of COVID-19, according to a report.<\/p>\n

Julia Jackson accused her communications professor, Mark Crispin Miller, of using his position of power to boost far-right conspiracy theories and discredit medical professionals in class, according to NBC New York<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn MCC tenured professor spent an entire class period telling students that wearing masks doesn\u2019t prevent the spread of COVID-19, and that hydroxychloroquine trials were made to fail so more people would be given the vaccine and have their DNA changed,\u201d Jackson tweeted<\/a> at the school Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have forwarded the emails to the NYU bias hotline,\u201d she added, while accusing the teacher of running his own \u201cconspiracy website.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Miller said he cited scientific studies during his \u201cMass Persuasion and Propaganda\u201d class which backed up the claim that face coverings aren\u2019t effective in stopping the spread of flu-like respiratory diseases.<\/p>\n

He also called Jackson\u2019s tweets \u201cvenomous\u201d and said he in fact encouraged students to abide by the university\u2019s mask mandate \u2014 claiming he was just simply thinking critically about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do believe they should be thinking for themselves\u2026It\u2019s one thing to expect the students to obey their institution\u2019s rules, but quite another thing to urge them not to think about it,\u201d he wrote on his blog<\/a> Monday. \u201cThat\u2019s my intellectual and civic obligation.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response, NYU sent an email to students in Miller\u2019s class reminding them to wear face coverings.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmid the reports about this online class, we have communicated directly with the students in it to remind them of the guidance from health authorities,\u201d the university said in a statement, according to NBC New York.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t immedia<\/a>tely clear if NYU planned to reprimand Miller \u2014 but the school is \u201cdispleased that I\u2019ve questioned masking,\u201d Miller wrote on his blog.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
