\n Three MTA tradesmen allegedly boozed, napp<\/a>ed and watched TV inside a secret \u201cman cave\u201d built below the tracks at Grand Central Terminal, according to the MTA\u2019s internal watchdog.<\/p>\n

Investigators discovered the lounge \u2014 complete with futon, flat-screen, microwave and refrigerator \u2014 behind a sheetrock wall in an unused locksmith shop below Track 114, in the station\u2019s lower level, according to a report by MTA Inspector General<\/a> Carolyn Pokorny set to be released Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany a New Yorker has fantasized about kicking back with a cold beer in a prime piece of Manhattan real estate \u2014 especially one this close to good transportation,\u201d Pokorny said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFew would have the chutzpah to commandeer a secret room beneath Grand Central Terminal.\u201d<\/p>\n

The investigators initially paid a surprised visit to the locksmith shop on Aug. 8, 2019, after concluding that Metro-North officials had failed to investigate two previous complaints about workers using the space to \u201chang out and get drunk and party.\u201d<\/p>\n

The three Metro-North employees \u2014 a wireman, carpenter foreman and electrical foreman, who were not named due to ongoing disciplinary proceedings \u2014 denied ever having been in the room.<\/p>\n

But Pokorny\u2019s office says they\u2019d left their fingerprints behind, and the evidence they used the underground hangout was \u201coverwhelming.\u201d<\/p>\n

There, they found wooden cabinets that appeared to be specifically designed to conceal the TV and futon, along with a pullout cot sitting just outside the room. A half-empty beer sat in the fridge.<\/p>\n

An Amazon streaming device attached to the TV had the carpenter foreman\u2019s mobile hotspot on its list of available Wi-Fi network, and was registered to the electrical foreman \u2014 whose name was also on a pull-up bar box and two 2018 datebooks found in the room, the IG said.<\/p>\n

A receipt with the wireman\u2019s name printed on it was found inside an air mattress box in the room, the IG said.<\/p>\n

He initially admitted to being the room with the electrical foreman while receiving overtime pay \u2014 but later recanted, according to Pokorny.<\/p>\n

Confronted by the IG, the electrical foreman admitted to having a copy of the key to the locksmith shop despite not having worked with locksmiths for at least five years.<\/p>\n

Grand Central Terminal management, meanwhile, claimed to have no idea the man cave even existed \u2014 despite multiple complaints that Metro-North security falsely claimed to have investigated.<\/p>\n

Officials \u201cwere not aware that the storage room existed and did not know which employees had keys to the storage room,\u201d the IG said.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Railroad president Cathy Rinaldi called the secret man cave \u201coutrageously inappropriate\u201d and \u201cnot consistent with Metro-North\u2019s values.\u201d<\/p>\n

All three men \u2014 who still deny the allegations \u2014 have been suspended without pay, and face potential termination, Rinaldi said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
