Sugiyama also has the chief animation director credit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px\"><em>The Gender of Mona Lisa <\/em>is based on a manga by <strong>Tsumuji Yoshimura<\/strong>. The anime\u2019s synopsis reads:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Hinase, the main character who continues to live genderless. Childhood friends Ritsu and Shiori, who have already chosen theirs. What is \u201clove\u201d? What does it mean to have something you want to cherish above all else? Their classmates and the adults around them struggle and hesitate alongside them, weaving the story together. What choice will Hinase make?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">The source material is serialized on Square Enix\u2019s GANGAN Online and released its 10th and final volume in 2022.
