The US government sanctioned an individual and two crypto exchanges it said facilitated money laundering for a combined $5 million in digital assets linked to Iran.<\/p>\n
The US Treasury Department\u2019s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced sanctions against two digital asset exchanges it said that \u201cthe Iranian regime relies on to launder billions of dollars\u201d amid military actions between the two countries. <\/p>\n
In a Friday notice, OFAC said<\/a> it had taken measures against crypto exchanges Shelbit and Aban Tether for \u201cfacilitating illicit cryptocurrency activity and sanctions evasion,\u201d using the proceeds to support Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The government agency also sanctioned Iranian national Siavash Kayvanpour and crypto wallets and companies tied to him, one of which operates Shelbit.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will continue to increase the economic pressure,\u201d said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. \u201cWhether in dollars, rials, or crypto, Treasury will hunt down and dismantle the illicit financial networks that keep the regime afloat.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more<\/p>\n<\/p>\n If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
