Steele jumped onto my radar this February thanks to her breakout appearances on <i>wonderful<\/i>, the latest album by FADER coverstar skaiwater. Her powerhouse vocals buttressed standouts \u201cas above so below\u201d and \u201cmidsommar,\u201d expanding skaiwater\u2019s cinematic palette and injecting a needed dose of soul into the album.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            But it\u2019s Steele\u2019s solo output that makes the totally independent artist \u2013 she doesn\u2019t even have a manager \u2013  one to watch, from her 2024 album <i>7<\/i> to more recent singles \u201cROKU CITY\u201d and \u201cMS. UNDERSTOOD.\u201d Ti\u2019s omnivorous approach metabolizes everything from soul to rap to garage, but her dulcet tones and charmingly down-to-earth bars keep her music grounded and intimate no matter the style. Puma Blue live in Los Angeles &#8212; November 3rd, 2023. Harvey Dweller opened for him, who&#8217;s a member of the live band, and HOLY SHIT? Actually insane, I believe he was playing an instrument and DJ&#8217;ing simultaneously? And then when Puma&#8217;s set started, there was this radio interference happening that overlapped the current happenings in Gaza with the music and it was truly profound. My mother was with me, and a guy I wound up seeing for a while, and subsequently ended up making a lot of music about, happened to be at that same show, just a few rows away from us, on some <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Red_thread_of_fate\">red string theory<\/a> shit. I stood right behind the lighting booth, it was so sick. One of the best shows I&#8217;ve ever seen in my life.
