\n One NFL coach said he\u2019s ready to take a knee during the national anthem next season with his players to protest racial injustice and police brutality.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019ll take a knee \u2014 I\u2019m all for it,\u201d Houston Texans coach Bill O\u2019Brien told the Houston Chronicle on Friday. \u201cThe players have a right to protest, a right to be heard and a right to be who they are. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re not taking a knee because they\u2019re against our flag. They\u2019re taking a knee because they haven\u2019t been treated equally in this country for over 400 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien, along with Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair, JJ Watt and many other players, attended George Floyd\u2019s funeral earlier this week. The 50-year-old, who will be entering his seventh season as the Texans\u2019 coach, spoke last week about the state of race relations in the United States, saying, \u201cWe all have to stand up and understand that what is going on in this country right now is wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien also strongly supported his players taking a knee in 2017 after then-owner Bob McNair, who died in 2018, was heavily criticized for saying during an owner meeting that \u201cwe can\u2019t have the inmates running the prison.\u201d That was in reference to player demonstrations and protests during the national anthem at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI support my players 100 percent,\u201d O\u2019Brien said after the first game<\/a> played since that controversy erupted. \u201cI love my players. I support them 100 percent.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Friday\u2019s Chronicle article, O\u2019Brien also said he thinks the Texans\u2019 organization \u2014 led by owner Janice McNair and the rest of the family \u2014 is \u201ctrying to find ways to fight racial injustice in this country.\u201d Janice gained ownership of the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t a conscious effort,\u201d O\u2019Brien told the website, referring to the Texans\u2019 response to Floyd\u2019s death. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t like we had a conversation together and decided to do it. I think we just said enough is enough, and we\u2019ve got to do what\u2019s right. As an organization, we\u2019re part of the conversation, and we want to do our part.\u201d<\/p>\n

Floyd, 46, died on May 25 in Minneapolis after police officer Derek Chauvin, 44, pressed his knee into Floyd\u2019s neck for more than eight minutes after Floyd was suspected of spending a counterfeit $20 bill. <\/p>\n

Chauvin is facing the charge of second-degree murder, in addition to the original charges of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter with culpable negligence.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
