Each lamp in the collection starts as a recognizable geometric form: a cylinder, a rectangle, a triangle, or a split volume. Then a narrow opening, a \u201crift,\u201d is cut through the outer shell. That single gesture changes everything. Light escapes through the gap in a thin, directed line while the rest of the body glows softly from within. The Rift Series is essentially that conversation shrunk down to the scale of a bedside table. They share the same ribbed surface texture, the same two-tone palette with a colored base, and the same manufacturing process: additive manufacturing using plant-based bioplastic, produced locally in New York. The horizontal layers left by the 3D printing process are kept visible rather than sanded away, which I think is one of the more interesting calls in the project. The texture catches light in a way a smooth surface never could, and it gives each piece a kind of materiality that reads as both modern and handmade at the same time.
