In terms of market value, traders reckon Nikola is now worth just $6.91 billion\u00a0<span>\u2014<\/span> one-fifth of what it was at its peak.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla, the<i>\u00a0<\/i>original\u00a0EV company named after the famed inventor, is also struggling to maintain value. At their all-time highs, Nikola\u2019s and Tesla\u2018s share prices were up 810% and 480% respectively for the year, and have both dropped considerably since their peaks.<\/p>\n<p><em>[Read: Tesla stock dives after Elon Musk cools \u2018Battery Day\u2019 hype]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But even with an abdicating founder, Nikola is still in the green for 2020. Chart made with Flourish.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tesla, on the other hand, opened Thursday trade at $363.80; down 27% from its all-time high, but still up more than 320% year-to-date.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Nikola_and_Tesla_do_share_a_certain_bond_beyond_the_name\"><\/span>Nikola and Tesla do share a certain bond, beyond the name<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Considering the seriousness of the allegations levied against Milton, it\u2019s not exactly fair to compare Tesla, a considerably tangible brand, to Nikola, which is still working with prototypes.<\/p>\n<p>However, the two stocks do share a common mission leading into 2021: prove they\u2019ve grown into their new market values. For Tesla, it\u2019s mostly a matter of making good on its promise to eventually sell a $25,000 EV.<\/p>\n<p>But Nikola must now rely on the size and scope of its deal with GM, as well the strength of its management post-Milton.
